Hi Guys! I tried doing a search on this and found nothing! So I hope you can help. I bought the DVD X Copy software a few years back and have had no problems. Recently I had to format my hard drive and reload everything. Damn viruses!! Anyway, when I reloaded X Copy and put in the license and code number it had no server to go to activate, since 321 studios is closed down. So how do I still use it? Am I screwed? I PAID for the use of it and now it's useless! Can someone help me?? Thanks in advance for all replys!!!!!

Hi!
Anyway, when I reloaded X Copy and put in the license and code number it had no server to go to activate, since 321 studios is closed down...Am I screwed?
Sounds like you won't be able to reactivate it...
I bought the DVD X Copy software a few years back...I PAID for the use of it and now it's useless!
Sounds like you've gotten good use out of it...
You might want to try (freeware) DVD Shrink or some other more current freeware or commercial alternatives...

Well, so far no help. Couldn't someone suggest something like dvd dcrypter or something and take the activation out? Is that possible? I don't see why they (321 studios) had to do this like they did. If you already paid for the software shouldn't it be yours to use forever?

What do you mean 'No Help'.
setarip_old gave you perfectly good advice.
Just because it is not what you wanted to hear does not mean it is not an answer to your problem.
There are loads of app.'s in the Download section here at doom9 that will do more than your extinct app. would ever do.

Thanks for the reply...... but I was looking for an answer to my questions.... not really advice!!!! If no ones knows how to circumvent this particular problem... then all well and good but just say..... uh... there is no way to get around their security measures and I would be Happy!!! Thanks

@Handy69Z
Hello, and Happy Holidays!
I know it's frustrating, but the best anyone here can offer you is going to be advice on other programs you can use. We can't recommend any way to crack your program because that would be incredibly against the forum rules -- and it's easy to see why those rules are there. Let's say someone who simply downloaded a program (either through filesharing, or possibly even trialware) but had no way to unlock it were to read any such advice on here. Then we'd be partially responsible for un-paid-for copies circulating around. We'd be FULLY responsible for promoting piracy. And we'd have no one else to blame when our beloved site's shut down.
I'm not accusing you of stealing the software -- please don't get me wrong. But I am saying that reasons like this are why we can't give you advice on bypassing the registration devices on your software. It really does sound like you're one of those cases that fall through the cracks. I'm really sorry that you paid for software you can no longer use, but as others have stated, there are VERY suitable free alternatives.
Good luck to you!

Thank you very much Writerblock29. That was indeed a nice reply!!! And I see what you mean about un-paid-for software. But I do indeed have the purchased software from 321 studios. But anyway, I tried downloading DVD Rebuilder. Then when I couldn't get it to work I researched it. You have to download several other components to make it work... all free of course. But that does me no good... cause you have to put this file in this folder and make sure this path way is correct..... yada yada yade..... and none of it works for me 'cause I dont spend that much time in front of the computer. So I will keep trying to find something that works for me in the meantime. But once again..... thank you very much for your kind reply. Merry Christmas!!!

I'm not sure what you couldn't get to work with respect to DVD-RB. There is an installer for DVD-RB that automates the process of installing all of the components. A freeware encoder (HC) is included during the installation.
However, if you want a transcoder on par with DVD-X Copy, do a search for DVD Shrink. It is a well-respected, one click application that has stood the test of time admirably. It is very simple to operate and has more functionality that DVD-X Copy.
My best...

@Handy69Z
You're very welcome! I hope the holiday treated you as great as it did me (that's saying a lot; it was sweeeet!)
Try the full installer for DVD Rebuilder (this is the freeware version, but it should fit your needs quite well) that will automate the whole installing process. That way, you really shouldn't need to do much in the way of making sure THIS version of THAT program goes into THIS file renamed as THAT and rounded off to the nearest ten blahblahblah. As mentioned by aaron10, the installer contains Hank's very excellent HC encoder, and setting Rebuilder up to use it is a breeze.

The link to DVD Shrink is also below; but please note that there are some DVD releases that 'Shrink's internal decrypter won't handle. You're far better off using a good decrypter before aiming DVD Shrink at it.

For a good decrypter (also with its own installer) that doesn't require much fuss, try DVDFab Decrypter. It's free, and updates quite often to handle new copy-protection schemes. At times, its output causes DVD Shrink to spit error messages at you, but if you don't mind waiting a few weeks, chances are there'll be an update that will address whatever problem you've encountered. Link below.

I hope this all gets you off to a fruitful start!

Thanks writersblock29 for your help and reply!! I loaded the DVDRB from the site you listed and loaded it. As soon as I try to start it I'm told, "runtime error 52" bad file name or folder!! This is what the last one did I downloaded from somewhere else. I remember loading the software and it asked me for a folder or file location. It said it would "ignore it or something" and just put something in!! Could this be the problem .... and what do I put in there? Your help will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.... John

With an editor (like notepad or wordpad), edit the file REBUILDER.INI in the rebuilder directory. Delete the line that starts with "Source=" -- somehow that directory has either gone away or has been corrupted.

Thanks jdobbs for the reply. I had never done anything like this before... that is going into a folder and changing something. But I got it figured out and went in and deleted the line that starts ....source = . Then I closed it out and saved the changes to it. I restarted the DVDRB program and it came up the same error..52... I went back into wordpad and to my surprise... the line I had erased was back again!!! I tried it several times to no avail... so once again I am still stuck in my attempt to copy a DVD.... rats!!!!!!

In light of your difficulties, you might want to try (as has been previously suggested to you by a couple of us) the simple to install and simple to use DVD Shrink...

John It must not have been deleted... because DVD-RB won't create it until you've selected one.
When you installed it, you apparently typed in something nonsensical when asked where you wanted to save your files. Just do the installation again, but when it asks for output folders, you have to select a location that actually exists -- or use the defaults. I'd even suggest you uninstall first so it doesn't suggest the old values you typed in.
Don't change anything. Just take the default values for everything.
@setarip_old
Please... DVD-RB is no more difficult to install than Shrink... have you ever tried it? My guess is "No"

@jdobbs
Hi!
I wasn't in any way suggesting that DVD Rebuilder is problematic, for installation, usage, or anything else. I was simply offering an alternative to a poster who is obviously having problems getting DVD Rebuilder up and running...

Thanks guys for the help. In my stupidity I never read the instructions on running DVD Rebuilder. I did not know that you had to run DVD Decrypter first!! Once I did that the DVDRB worked fine. Thanks. But when I came to the part about leaving the computer run all night to copy a movie I stopped. That is way to long in my book to just copy a movie.
I don't mind having a movie on two discs once it is copied so could I just use DVD Decrypter and then run Nero instead? Seems like a much faster process if one does not mind a split movie!! Once again thanks for the info and I will keep trying to find a way to use my DVD X copy again!!!

JohnWhat part is that? DVD Rebuilder usually takes 90 minutes or so on a fast computer and up to 3 hours on a slow one. The only time you hear of overnight runs are for people who like to do 10 pass encodes. Anything over 2 or 3 is overkill IMHO.
