Problems with The Brothers Grim

i bought this just yesterday, and was trying to use dvd shrink to make a backup for it, as i watch my dvd's traveling and such and my little portable dvd player scratches the hell out of the disks, so i make a backup to use..

anyways..after i hit the make back up button, it starts analyzinf, and then just cuts off saying the "Sector is Encrypted"..

so what the hell? anyone else having problems?

any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks!

This title is ripguard protected. You will need to do 1 of 3 things:

1> Use AnyDVD with Vob Blanker to copy the DVD to the hard drive before using DVD Shrink. OR copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive and use FixVTS to fix it.

2> Use the PSL2Plugin for PGCEdit which will create a PSL2 file for DVD Decryptor, rip the disc, and then automagically run FixVTS for you. Then use DVD Shrink on the files that were ripped to the hard drive.

3> Use the latest DVD Fab Decrypter to rip to your hard drive. Then use DVD Shrink on the files that were ripped to the hard drive.

Personally I use CloneDVD from Slysoft in combination with AnyDVD and do not have to do any of this. But if you wish to stick with DVD Shrink, then you must fix the ripped files. DVD Shrink alone will never be able to handle Ripguard protected discs. I hope this helps.

i use dvd for free in conjunction with dvdshrink..i believe i read somewhere that i need to turn off the dvd4free to use dvdfab decryptor..

is this something you are familiar with?

DVD4Free may have been updated lately to handle Ripguard I don't really know, but, I would definitely disable it if you're going to use DVD Fab Decrypter. I think just right clicking on it and exiting should suffice.

To get this to work I used DVD Fab Decryptor to rip the files to the hard drive. Then I had to use Vob Blanker to fix the protected file otherwise DVD Shrink came up with an out of memory error.

1) Used DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 to rip to my hard drive

2) Used VOBBlanker v.2.0.1.0 to simply load the ripped hard drive files and press the "Process" button (Using the default settings)

3) Used DVD Shrink to compress "Full Disk"

DVD Shrink is getting old, so, you'll see the need for more and more of these external processes before you can use Shrink. While it works, it is time consuming. To give you an idea, with CloneDVD and AnyDVD I was able to back up Brothers Grimm in 18 minutes. No messing around with ripping to the hard drive, processing with Vob Blanker, etc. Just open the DVD up in CloneDVD with AnyDVD running, select what I want to keep, and off she went. 18 minutes later it was done. If you ever decide that you want a faster process, give the trials of CloneDVD and AnyDVD a try. You can find them on www.slysoft.com and they give you 21 days to try them out. If you're happy with the process above, then definitely stick with it, but, CloneDVD and AnyDVD can definitely save you a lot of time. AnyDVD is regularly updated within 2-3 hours of any new protection's release.

They are both pay for programs, yes. There's a discount for CDFREAKS members going on right now and you can get CloneDVD and AnyDVD in a bundle on the Slysoft website. You download the trial versions and when you wish to purchase them you buy a key for each program on the Slysoft website. You just import the keys into the registry and the fully functional trials become fully functional full versions. In my opinion, the CloneDVD/AnyDVD combination is definitely worth the money. You can not buy them in stores...only from the Slysoft website. Try the trials before you decide to buy.

just finished watching the backup (am bored at work) and it is flawless..! for some reason, it seems to "look" better than any of the others...

is there some reason for this..process still finished by shrink dvd...colors are super deep and rich...maybe it is just my imagination..

Hi, tried to back up Brothers grimms with dvd shrink but got an error. I then tried it using DVD Decrypter(sucessful) then VobBlanker2.0.10(sucessful)and then DVD shrink I got
"Burn Error
DVD-Video Files Reallocation Failed".

The same thing happened when I tried DVDfab DCrypter 2.9.6.5 Then Voblanker then dvd shrink.

I am having the same problem with "The great Raid"

I have backed up other DVD's before and after the error message with no problem at all.

I am a newbie, especially compared to a lot of you guy's. I could sure use some help figuring this on out.

Hi!
"Burn Error
DVD-Video Files Reallocation Failed".
Normally, that INFORMATION notice is generated by NERO (DVD Shrink doesn't actually do the burning, NERO does) and it doesn't say "burning error". It offers you the option to ignore this information and continue the burning process. Simply choose to continue the burning process.

(Most of the time, NERO will generate this information notice because the DVD contains a .VOB of -0- bytes)

Tried to copy black dawn using dvd decrypter, all went well getting it to my hard drive but when trying to use dvd shrink I got a error and was unable to open the files. I loaded Vobblanker and tried to process the files that were created with dvd decrypter. I kept getting a error with vobblanker 'video_ts.ifo not found'. When I looked into the files on the hard drive the only IFO file was 'vts_01.ifo'.
I tried to change the path and name but still would not load files into voblanker.

What am I doing wrong???

1) When you used VOBBlanker v..2.0.10 did you do anything other than select "Process" (You shouldn't have)?

2) Have you tried turning OFF the automatic burn with NERO in DVD Shrink - and using NERO to manually burn instead?

BTW, my Region 1 version of "The Brothers Grimm" doesn't contain a "VTS_04_0.VOB", does yours?

3) I downloaded the trial version of nero a while ago so I can't use it by itself, only with dvd shrink. I can try and get and install the full version and then try and burn it that way if you think that is the solution.

What Region is your purchased DVD? Is this .VOB a -0- byte .VOB? Is this .VOB included in the files created by DVD Shrink?

It says it size is 374kb
I don't know if it is included in the files created by DVD shrink as I have back up other dvd's after this on and that erases the files. I can re-do it if it's necessary.

I'm sending it thru Voblanker right now to try it again and see if the same thing happens. Not expecting it to work but as I read in an earlier posting _ "The problem usually lies somewhere between the chair and the key Board".

Have you checked your settings to make sure you are splitting "by file"?
In DVDD, go to Tools>Settings, click on the File Mode tab, and make sure your File splitting is set to "by file". I once accidentally changed those preferences and it renamed the files differently, thus Shrink could not find the appropriate files.

If that doesn't work for you, try burning it from DVD Shrink using DVD Decrypter since you already have that installed anyway. That'll take Nero right out of the equation. Good luck!

Sent it thru Voblanker again just to check and got the same error.

Tried DVDecrytper again and it worked fine (same with dvfab) but DVD Shrink came up with "invalid data in file"C:\The_Brothers_Grimm_\Video_TS\VTS__.VOB"

Any Suggestions?

Yes, why don't you use the remove crap routine in PSL2 Plugin and then process files with FixVTS. That will remove and clean up the IFO's and VOB's so you can import to DVDS without errors. I gave you a link to the plugin a couple posts back.

You shouldn't go that far saying you are ignorant, you just don't understand the program yet.

The PSL2 Plugin installer will install all the programs you need on your C drive that are associated with the plugin (just make sure you have DVDD & DVDS installed - also make sure you have AnyDVD & DVD43 OFF). The plugin is run from PGCEdit. What I would do is put the original DVD back in the drive and open PGCEdit then click Plugins>PSL(ARccOS)>Wizard and run everything from phase 1. This will rip your DVD, make a psl file if needed, and clean up your IFO's and VOB's automatically for you and then launch DVDS for you and import the files.

Yes, the options setting is 'by file'. it seems that this only started happening with some of the newer dvd's on the market. I tried a older dvd (about 8 months old) and it came out perfect. I have troubles with The brothers grim and black dawn. other dvd's will work without problems. I downloaded vobblanker due to a thread earlier that said to run the files through vobblanker to clean them up and then use shrink to compress onto smaller files.

I suspect some newer version of incryption.

For what it's worth, I had several issues trying to use Nero with shrink. I finaly just deleted the nero software and used another brand (Record now). The disk dosent automaticly burn when shrink is done, but my computer dosent hangup any more either. That's a good thing for me :)

Have you tried ripping with DVD Fab Decrypter at all? That should eliminate the need to use Vob Blanker at all in your process so long as you use the latest DVD Fab Decrypter.

If that doesn't interest you, look in this thread for the link to the PSL plugin for PGCEdit which will use a wizard to rip the latest titles to your hard drive. Vob Blanker won't be necessary with that method, either.

It definitely sounds like something didn't go right with the rip, though.

Just when you think you have a problem you suddenly figure out that 'your stuck on stupid'.
I had a switch set for a different mode. I did this last week and have been having troubles. went to default settings and now everything is working fine now.

Some things are better left alone when you dont know how to use some of the functions. :stupid:

I'm afraid Idon't know what that is. I have DVD shrink, DVD Decrypter,DVDFAB, Nero, And Voblanker.

All works well until the burning phase of DVD shrink. Just tried it again and got the message:

DVDD = DVD Decrypter
DVDS = DVD Shrink

So you have both installed. What *I* would recommend is in DVD Shrink select the burning engine to be DVD Decrypter and try again. Forget about using Nero to burn with. DVD Decrypter is considered one of the best freeware burning engines going. There is an option for it in the DVD Shrink options page.

however all output files were sucessfully encoded. and they are ready for burning with appropriatr DVD burning software.It's now VERY apparent that your trial version of NERO is no longer functional - either manually or from within DVD Shrink.

Therefore, the suggestion by "SamuriHL" is a great freeware option (In order to use DVD Decrypter for burning, you'll have to convert your ripped files to an .ISO image file or re-rip your purchased DVD as .ISO).

As an alternative, if you like the way NERO works for you, you now have the opportunity to purchase it...

I honestly don't remember off the top of my head. I don't have DVD Shrink on my system anywhere as I don't use and/or need it. I just remember that being an option. But yes, I think you're in the right place but I think it's not on that tab. I think it's on the first or second tab in the options page if I remember correctly. Perhaps someone with Shrink installed can point you to the right place if you can't find it.
