Hi all
Has anyone managed to get a good backup of this?
1st time I tried, rebuilder told me the reduction level was (can't remember the exact figure) -33.5% and the available space for video was about -1.5gb.
There are 80 vob sets on the dvd and while the info on the back of the case says there are no subtitles ,if I load it up in shrink there are 80 sets of subs ranging from 45-85mb each in size...... The audio also takes up about 2.5gb...........
Any ideas about how to get a good quality backup?
Is there an easy way to compress the audio?
Just out of curiosity I've left dvdshrink running overnight, having removed the subs it gave me a reduction level of about 70%.
I tried to run the same files through rebuilder (subs removed but they were still picked up by rebuilder) but it only gave 500mb space for video.
Any help would be great.
Cheers Soup

The subs will be for the game highlights - so strictly speaking there are subs, but not in the way 'one' would normally think of them (ie different languages, hearing impaired etc). Suffice to say don't remove them!!

It probably because of the default "VTS_MIN_SIZE" setting. You have a huge number of very small (less than 50MB) VTSs. The default setting is:
VTS_MIN_SIZE=25625
The setting is in sectors (2048 bytes each). So that is slightly over 50MB. It's meant to make DVD-RB ignore non-meaningful VTSs and just copy them instead of encode them. But in your case the entire disc seems to be nothing but a lot of small VTSs.
If you set it lower the value you will encode more VTSs. Setting it to zero will do them all.

Will that change make it process the "subs" too?
I'll give it a go in the morning, cheers for the info.
P.S. I've not got a problem with the key reg process :-) Whatever it takes to protect your time and effort.

Just had a thought......
The fact that most of the vobs are listed within rebuilder must mean that they're bigger than 50mb surely? Is the problem I'm having related to the number of subtitles that seem to be taking up all the space. Correct me if I'm wrong (probably am) but are subs left intact by rebuilder? 80 subs @ 40mb is a lot of wasted space if left unencoded. I get the figure of 40mb from dvdshrink, some of the subs are as big as 85mb :-(
Hope this is of help.......

The dvdshrink (I know this isn't the Dvd Shrink forum) copy failed where it askes you to press enter to continue. I managed to skip to another part of the game and the navigation buttons (up, down, left and right) don't seem to do anything an all. I'm running it again with the subs back in to see if that makes any difference.
Is there any way I can compress the subs as they seem to take up a vast amount of space?

Subs don't generally take much space.... you could open the source with VOBEDIT and see if it has a lot of sub packs in it...

I can't do a lot at the moment as it's running the second attempt with the subs left in with shrink but do you mean the number of subs that rebuilder lists in the right hand window? If so most of the vobs have upwards of 20 subs listed in them. Only 2 or 3 have just the one.

Just ran it through the 30 trial of clonedvd2 and the output while not as good as can be achieved with rebuilder is non the less fully working. All the subs were left in. Is there a workaround that I could use for rebuilder that would allow the subs to be encoded too?

Update
Just in case anyone is following this thread.....The backup with clonedvd is not fully working :-( After you get past the £1000 mark the lifelines start to go funny (not getting crossed out after they've been used), the "that's correct now here's your next question" clip gets missed out and a few other strange things happen.
I've noticed there is a setting in Dvddecrypter to check for structure protection and if found it will insert dummy sectors......
I've unchecked that and will re-rip and run it through clonedvd again.
I'll post when the thing is finished but for some reason it's very s-l-o-w.
Not to worry eh?

Not having any joy with any method. The main problem seems to be the vast number and size taken up by the "subs"....
Is there any method that anybody is aware of that I can use to compress these "subs". Just incase anyone is unaware these subs are an integral part of the game and not real subtitles. Each sub set takes up between 40-80 mb and there are loads of them (see earlier post).

you can't compress the subs - they are already compressed as part of the DVD spex - RLE encoded. The problem could be the button highlight information and the number of packs containing this info. have you tried using the 'Big 3' method (Scenaid and muxman - donationware).
More to the point though is why RB is failing on this disc.

As near as I can tell it's failing because by the time you take into consideration the parts that can't be removed -- there is no room for any video. You end up with a negative balance. If that is truly the case -- the big 3 method isn't going to be able to do it either.

Absolutely true, which leaves a final choice of splitting the DVD over 2 discs (DVD Remake PRO), or dual layer burner....
I do find it unbelievable that the subs require that much space.. what was it 40 @ 45mb-85mb each. What is the audio DTS or LPCM? I can't believe its AC3 with that size.

note this is a game dvd of course and not a movie. who wants to be a millionare is a game show where the contestant is asked multiple choice questions and if they get them right they go to a higher dollar value. where they of course have to answer another quaestion etc. so the reason for such large subs is simply that they are no doubt all the questions and answers with multiple for each dollar level(wouldnt last long if you got the same quaestions every time would it :) ).
so i doubt splitting it over 2 dvds is probably a good idea either. burning to a dvd9(dual layer) seems the best bet really.

I purchaced a double layer blank and burnt the game untouched and it works 100% The only thing I did out of the ordinary was to change one of the settings of DvdDecrypter. It checks for dvd structuring errors as default and as I'd read on another forum that someone else had tried burning to a d/l disc but the game failed after the £1000 mark, so I disabled that check re ripped and hey presto....One thing I did notice is that the questions after £1000 are pictures would that explain all the subs? It's still a pain having to burn to a d/l disc (cost-just as well it's a one off). Is there a way to reduce the space taken up by the subs or a way to strip and compress the audio further although it's ac3 @ 192kbps as it is?
Might be time to accept defeat on this one I think :-(
Thanks for all the input though chaps (and ladies if there were any) :-)
