Selecting layerbreak with PgcEdit

Im trying to make an iso using PgcEdit, but im not quite sure what to do. I have read this guide: http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/blutach/dl_burning_with_pgcedit.htm , but my english is not perfect, so im not sure i understand it fully.

I have a screenshot here from PgcEdit, maybe someone could tell me just what to do :)

I know that the green lines are the best choice for a layer break, but should i choose v/cid 2/1, since all the lines are coloured in that sector or does that not matter and should i mark the 2 blue lines as seamless cells?

I have tried making 1 iso using v/cid 1/18 cell 1 and marked the two blue lines as seamless cells and the iso created just fine, but the burn failed.

Im kind of stuck, so i hope someone can help

Welcome, sleepyhead.

Without the screenshot, I can't help.

Normally, a blue line is a good LB point, as it's already a cell with a non-seamless joint. A green line is even better. You will certainly not notice the LB.
But in both cases, make sure the same cell is not reused in another PGC. (When it's the case, the first number in the line is replaced by two quotes in the reused cells.)

Anyway, PgcEdit tries to select the best cell automatically. If you are not sure of what to do, just accept the default.

Don't forget that you can also preview the cell.


Why did your burn failed? What are the error message and symptoms? Can you post the ImgBurn log file?
If you got a problem when writing, it is probably not caused by the layer break. Did you use good media (Verbatim)?

I use Ritek d01 and i know they are not so good media, but i have made 9 or 10 coasters so far, so i think im doingsomething else wrong

I can't read the logs, too. Probably also a approval problem. It's better to copy/paste the full text between [ CODE ] tags.

Anyway, your bad burns are most certainly caused by the media. As far as I know, only Verbatim and some Philips DL DVDs are good enough. Avoid all other brands, including well known ones, such as Maxell. Ritek media are among the worst!
Don't forget that DL DVDs are difficult to burn and read! Use only excellent media, or burn cheap single layer DVDs only!

I do know about the poor quality of the media( i didnt when i bought 50 of them :devil: ), but they do work with the same burner as mine:

OK, I see.

On the LB question:
You have a lot of reused cells, but IMO the better one to choose is the cell starting at LBA 1873918, which appear to be selected in the image. Good.

On the Error:
Since the layer break is at sector 1873920, sectors 0 to 1873919 are on layer 0, and the remaining ones on layer 1. The verify error is at sector 1873921, on the second (!?) sector of layer 1. This is certainly due to bad media, or to an incompatibility between the media and your burner and/or player.
I'm not an expert on hardware burning problems, but I can say for sure that it's not the fault of the software (PgcEdit, mkisofs or ImgBurn.)

I have two more quistion though:

The cell starting in sector 1873918 is blue, isnt the green line(cell 1) better, according to the text at the bottom and should i set cell 17, in sector 1873918 to seamless cell?

Well, it's exactly the same VOB cell.
The situation is a little bit more complicated than in the "normal" case, because the same VOB cell is used by 3 different PGCs. (It's commonly called "reused cell".)

Look at the line beginning with 1873918: it's cell 18 of title 50, and this line is probably blue (beneath the cursor.) Just below this line, you have two lines beginning with the ' ' symbol, meaning that it's the same starting sector, and therefore the same VOB cell that is used. The first (green) line is cell 1 of title 66, and the next one (blue) is cell 17 of title 52. The same video content is shared by those 3 cells. You can verify that with the preview (double-click on the line.)

The second line is green, because it's the first cell of title 66. When playing title 66, you will therefore not notice the layer break. Good. But when playing title 50 or 52, the layer break will be noticeable, since it is in the middle of the title.

I cannot see all cells on the image, but I guess you don't have a VOB cell where ALL lines are green. So, as advised in the little help text in the GUI, you should use preferably the cell where all lines are coloured. It's the cell starting at sector 1873918.

You can select any of the 3 lines, but the effect will be the same: a layer break on the same cell, used in 3 titles, and noticeable in 2 of them.


Important: If you want to use another VOB cell, for example the cell starting at sector 1943604 (which may also be a good choice) don't forget to set the seamless flag on the two blue lines, or you will experience a pause, even if the physical layer break it not there!
