Is there any free reference explaining all DVD commands? There is an unofficial DVD spec. mentioned in this forum and linked by PGCEdit. But it only disclose part of the spec. You have to pay to browse the rest. I am looking for a free reference. Shouldn't this be an open domain info?

I did extensive searches and only came up with the free Unofficial DVD Spec which is quite extensive actually, but, as you say, incomplete. Then there is the stuff at Source Forge but that is a technical reference and not a good learning source. I found numerous bits and pieces including key patents. But if you want the whole thing you need to pay Toshiba $5,000 and sign a non-disclosure agreement so you can get one copy of Book B: Video Specs:

I never susbscribed but MPUCoder's (http://www.mpucoder.com/) forum is supposed to be pretty good. Costs $5 the last time I checked.

I have a bunch of bookmarks I'd like to share but can't figure out how to post html code in a message so I can just copy it from my bookmarks without converting it to (yuchh) VB script (no offense Doom9). I'd actually like to start a new forum dedicated to the DVD spec and list what I have and hope that others would contribute what they have found. I think this would be quite an appropriate place to start. What say you Doom9?

The sourceforge DVD information site (http://dvd.sourceforge.net/dvdinfo/) is only a (free) subset of the great DVD-Information site of Mpucoder. Furthermore, it is now discontinued, and contains many errors.
Use the site at sourceforge to get a feeling of what you can learn on mpucoder's site, and if you find it useful, pay the $5.
