View Full Version : How can we make alterations to a pre-built DVD project?

OK, heres my problem. I have a client who needs to make changes to a DVD project we produced for him several months ago. The problem is we no longer have the project files, only the completed Video_ts folder!
He only needs to make two changes. One to a peice of video that needs a graphic changing and one to a menu that needs one peice of text changing on it. We only have a short time frame to get this completed and the client is unable to get more money for the project. Therefore it is not possible for us to build the project again from scratch.
So to cut to the chase, my question is does anyone know a way in which we can make changes to these assets and then rebuild the dvd, just as it was? We may have a very large contract riding on our ability to do this.

For the video DoItFast4U + ScenAid is probably a good option (in fact AFAIK it is the only automated option)...see forum above this. As long as you keep the video length constant, you should be able to demux with DoItFast4U, replace the video and then use ScenAid.
For the menu then I think you can use MenuEdit.

Thanks for the response Matthew. As far as you know, will this enable the DVD to stay exactly the same. It was a very large and complicated project and we have neither the money or time to spend days re-navigating and re-authoring it.
Sorry, I know I should be trawling the forums for the answer, but we are in such a rush to get this done.

I don't use the method (ScenAid etc) but the structure should be exactly the same. Multiangle, seamless branching, etc could be troublesome though. The original IFOs are still used, just updated a bit, so there could be a lot of navigation in the IFOs, and the dvd still relatively easy to recreate.
Note that if the project is broken up into VTSs then you should be able to process only the affected VTS. If you are really fortunate and it's just a simple VTS, then you can recreate the vobs yourself in a quick manner, replace the old ones and use IFOUpdate to update the old IFOs with some new info.
In any event, you will have to spend a bit of time doing this, because there is a learning curve. But there are guides.

Hmmmm, crap!! :p
Thanks alot Matthew, fortunatley there is no multi angle and the best we can afford is Scenarist, so no seamless branching.
It looks like I have a lot of work to do.

Maybe you should take a look at "IfoUpdate"...

@Clown Shoes
I recommend using VobBlanker. It is fast and the whole DVD structure is'nt changed.
With VobBlanker you can export the video you need to modify.
Then do the changes with your prefered editor.
Import back the modified video with VobBlanker.
The same for the menu.
All the rest of the DVD is untouched.
This seems to be the fastest way.

I agree with goonix, I would use vobblanker. Especially now that it allows you to change a menu background, so you can do everything with it (except of course modifying the picture itself)...
Check out the guides on the vobblanker web site. there might not be one for changing the menu background but that should be pretty straightforward.
The whole thing is really not difficult, as outlined by goonix.
