Need help with DV Importing for Premiere Pro

I just got Premiere Pro 7.0, and one of the problems I've run into, and probably the most irksome, is that I dont have a Firewire port. I have the tiny little square port, the 1394 port, like my DV cam has, but i dont have a cord that will work. Since I couldn't figure out some way to import it directly into my laptop, I decided to do it on a computer that did, and export it over. So, I ended up using a school's iBook and got the whole film onto iMovie. Now, I've imported it over to my computer (XP-based) and the file is a .dv. When I try to export it over to Premiere Pro, I get an error "No importer found that supports this file type" So, I don't know what to do to get it into premiere to edit, and I have a deadline to have this on DVD and in school by Wednesday. Someone help Please!

Firewire = 1394 = iLink.. just different names from different companies. Since you cant recapture the data I dont know how you're going to get the dv files into Premiere. You could try installing Quicktime, change the extension to .mov, reimport into Premiere and see if that works, however Premiere most likely is going to label it as non-native and require reencoding but still better than nothing.

I realized that i do have the damn port just not a 4-pin to 4-pin cord to connect them, so i just need one of those. but i do have a deadline and it would take newegg a while to get it here, regardless of how great they are. Local stores have them for way too much (20+), so I need to find an alternative. I tried STOIKvideoconverter, but when i encoded it to an .avi file, Premiere said the file was corrupted or an unrecognized file, so i don't know what to do.

If you have Quicktime Professional installed on your PC, you should be able to simply load the .DV file into it, select "Export" and choose "As self-contained movie".

Similarly, you should also be able to export as .AVI...

Works fine with QT7 (non-pro). Also Premiere Pro 1.5 imports it just fine as long as it has the .mov extension and QT (7) is installed.
You could reencode them all using the QT Source plugin for AviSynth but the easiest would be to just capture the files as avis - you wont have to reencode them (-> better quality).
