if it's true, people are going to camping out 24hrs before the stores open, just to do the impossible: pay retail for an xbox360 under the tree

I doubt MS will take big leaps into the japanese market, which is kinda a shame - Japan seems like
the Tech centre of the world right now, at least as far as tech love goes .. and if they dont like the Xbox, maybe its for a reason of - whatever. ;)

One thing the Japanese don't like is the mandatory 100% tariff the government adds to all foreign imports. If you think buying a 360 on eBay is expensive, try adding 100% markup to it first.

Japan wants to keep its trading with the US just the way it is now, since it keeps US money constantly flowing into the econmy and hardly any of theirs coming out. That's what keeps them near the top of the global food chain.

The Japanese can buy whatever they want, but they have to pay a huge import tax for anything from outside Japan. It's how they keep their trade balance firmly in the black. American rice farmers and car manufacturers have been two leading opponents to the import tariffs in Japan. They've been trying to get them lowered or eliminated for decades with no luck.

Just the same applies to you too. If you order something outside of NAFTA, you need to pay import taxes.

True, but it's not nearly as bad as many other countries.
