Just purchased a new samsung 42" hi def widescreen plasma tv and a philips dvp642 dvd player to watch movies and hi def tv (north america). After connecting my computer to the tv ( via 15 pin D shell to video card) I notice the picture was streched horizontally. I thought this odd and then looked in the manual to find the native pixel resolution was 1024 x 768 (4 x 3 aspect ratio), the 50" tv had 1366 x 768 ( 16 x 9 aspect ratio) When I view SD tv I am able to streach the picture with the hd cable box (better than samsung panaramic view which distorts the ends of the picture and leaves the center alone) and in hi def the picture looks great. But here my question when I view widescreen movies from my dvd player or stream video from my computer will I have to zoom in to prevent letter boxing? And when I encode video what resolutions will look best on the tv. :thanks:
