Hi Guys

I have got AC3Filter v0.70b installed and working ok.
I have got Sony Vegas 6.0 installed also working ok.
Also got DVDA v3.0 installed and working ok.
Windows media player (6.4.09.1128) ok.

With this setup I can make a ac3 5.1 file with vegas 6.0
no problem and when i play it back, i can hear sound ok
when i look in the main window of AC3Filter under bitstream
information it shows like this:
Channels = 3/2+LFE 5.1
Sample rate = 48000 Hz
Bitrate = 448000 bps
Freq(coupl\high = 10.218 - 18.093
Frames\Errors = 1600 - 0

Now because of a prob with Open Gops i have with ver 6.0
(not being able to close them), i have now upgreaded to v6.0c
this now allows me to close gops, tested with dvdlabpro1.55 ok.
But now there is a new problem, ac3 files do not play!, using WMP
(6.4.09.1128).
when i look in the main window of AC3Filter under bitstream
information it shows like this:
Channels = 1+1 - Dual mono
Sample rate = 0 Hz
Bitrate = 0 bps
Freq(coupl\high = 0.000 - 0.000
Frames\Errors = 0 - 0
Also media player keeps on running and i have to go into
task manager to stop it.
i use DVDlab Pro 1.55 to compile my projects, useing pro EX within
DVDlab i load up the .m2v and .ac3 files, i do this to check the audio\
video sync, both the .ac3 and .m2v load into Pro Ex ok.
the video file plays but the audio do not, it knows that there is a .ac3
file there but just wont play, i think that i can put this down to the
AC3Filter v0.70b, but i might be wrong!
The thing is that it all worked ok, untill i upgreaded to vegas 6.0c!

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Thanks
Howard

Hi!

That's the "input" information. Have you tried setting the output (just below the "input" info) to "3/2+LFE 5.1" while playing?

Considering that youīre using AC3Filter (a Directshow filter, and that I worship), you should check if the installation of Vegas 6.0c hasnīt "damaged" your Directshow filters connection layout.
If u have Graphedit, just right-click the .ac3 file, then "Open with.." and choose GraphEdit. The program will automatically connect the necessary filters to render the file. If graphedit cannot render it, then IT IS a Directshow filters incompatibility (or lack of some filter).
If u know your way around Graphedit, try to make your own filters connection and see if the file is rendered. To play a .ac3 file in Directshow you need basically this, connected in the order iīm giving u:
1)File source --> the .ac3 file
2)AC3 Parser --> if the .ac3 file is a stand-alone, not within a container (.avi, .mkv, .vob, .mpg, etc.). If within a container uīll need that_file_parser (ex. MPEG-2 Demultiplexer, AVI Splitter, Matroska Splitter, etc.)
3)AC3Filter
4)Default Direct sound device (or whatever your soundboard is.)

BTW: Can the .ac3 file be played or rendered with a "non-Directshow based" player? Or with WinDVD or PowerDVD (wich are Directshow-based BUT use their own filters ignoring the rest)?
Try it and come back with the answer.
Good luck.

If you haven't already done so, you might try the following:

Under the "System" tab of AC3Filter v0.70b, change the "Default Audio Renderer" from "Direct Sound" to "Wave Out", or vice-versa - and reboot...

Hi
There seems to be no AC3 Parser on my system, there was before i installed v6.0c
is this the prob and is there a way to solve it ?
the .ac3 file is a stand-alone, it was made with Vegas 6.0c, as .ac3.

I do not have WinDVD or PowerDVD installed on my system, but i did try to play with
Creative Mediasource Player which came with my SB Audigy2 zs sound card, and it
played ok
Hope this helps

Hi Guys

I seem to have sorted this prob out!
I installed Cole2k Media Codec Pack V6.0.3 Standard
and now everything seems to be working ok now

Thanks for all you help

There seems to be no AC3 Parser on my system, there was before i installed v6.0c
Thatīs seems to be the problem (99% of probability).

CMS Player uses its own filters to render files, thatīs way your ac3 played OK.

I installed Cole2k Media Codec Pack V6.0.3 Standard
and now everything seems to be working ok now
it probably has an AC3 parser filter within.
BTW: be carefull with filter packages, most of them are very malignant (like a tumor): they hurt u without u knowing it :D .

and speaking of ac3filter, this release (http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/test/ac3filter_1_02a_test8.exe) works like a charm for me. enjoy it folks in case you didn't know.
