Hi
I have installed DVD-RB and gone to get the key. When I go to lunch the program I'm sent the the "Key file instalation" reg wizard again. I retype my e-mail and I'm told that it has been updated but opon the start of the program i'm sent back to the wizard again.
Help?
I'm sending you my code and e-mail so to get the manual key.

I had the same problem until I realised that the email address is case-sensitive. I retyped in lower-case and it worked.

Case sensitive? Hmm... I didn't think so -- I thought I'd converted it to lowercase before sending... but I'll check to be sure.

How sensitive is the hardware ID? I do a lot of drive-swapping so I'm wondering if this will screw it up. What do we do when we upgrade hardware and the checksum routine changes? What about system rebuilds? Granted, the releases are frequent enough this shouldn't be an issue, it's just that without a true hardware key, this kind of checksum can cause problems. So do protections based on IP address or anything else which can change. The real intent is to limit to a particular user. Finding a way to do that always has limitations.

Wow... that's making a lot of assumptions.
First, I don't think the methods I used is going to be a problem. But if it becomes a problem -- I'll change it. Right now, if the System ID changes, with the emphasis on "if", you just get a new one.
I ask that folks wait until we have a problem before we start trying to fix it.
By the way, I just checked the code, and neither of the fields is case sensitive. The case is converted before use.

They're not blind assumptions, they're based on my experiences with "system IDs". Note I said I swap drives. I'd rather know in advance if that's going to be a problem than try to remember which data drives were attched in which order.

Sorry, jdobbs, but I found that I could not get past the keycode routine until I entered the same email address in lowercase. Perhaps it was coincidental with something else.
The only thing that worries my is what do we do if Sony/Macro stamp on you? I hope it never happens but if it does you will probably not be allowed to do anything about keycodes. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but I hope this keycode scheme doesn't make you a more tasty target for the MPAAMAFIA etc.

I don't think that's an issue. If anything I were doing were illegal -- I wouldn't be doing it.

It's not that I'm paranoid. I just KNOW they're all out to get us!

@FredThompson
I'd say swapping out your primary drive would have to affect it. The registry, the O/S, and Rebuilder (along with the key file) itself would all be removed with the drive. So I don't see a way around that one... as for other drives -- I don't think it matters. There is plenty of "permanent" data in a BIOS, motherboard, etc. to make a system id without getting too crazy about it.
