They are claiming it is better quality than H.264 and providing the codec for free for personal use. So I was curious if anyone has tried it out at all? And if so what you thought of it?

On2 Truemotion VP7
TrueMotion VP7 is the world's best video compressor. It provides the best quality of any codec on the market today (better than H.264, MPEG-4, and Windows Media) at datarates from dial-up to high-definition. It encodes quicker, decodes in fewer cycles, and is less complex than the standards-based codecs used by our competitors.

With TrueMotion VP7, we've achieved dramatic improvement in both visual and objective quality over VP6, which itself was the market leader in video quality.

Stated simply: TrueMotion VP7 will provide your applications with the best video quality at lower cost than any other codec, including MPEG-4, H.264.

old news.. check the laternative codecs forum ;)

And you should really try and see by yourself. Or if that's too much for you, wait a few days until I publish the results of my next codec comparison.. VP7 is in it, so are a bunch of the best ASP and AVC (H.264) codecs available today.

Doom9, great news. And thanks for pointing me to the correct forum I'll try to find your codec comparisons there. Hope it's stickied :)

A bit hard to try it for myself yet I'm just starting to read up a bit on how to properly encode with h.264 or x.264 currently.
