encountered an error that had to do w/not enough memory

Ok, I usually find the answer to my question by doing a search, but this time I couldnt find the answer to my problem, maybe I didnt search for the right thing but I tried a few different searchs, so I hope some one can assist.

I have been "decrypting" for about a year now. I use dvdd, shrink, dvdfab, and dvdfabd. I just recently started using dvdfabd this past month and havent had any problems with it. But I noticed it asked if I wanted to turn on some type of direct access memory or something like that I cant really remember. Well the point is I think that may have something to do w/my problem.

I can backup w/dvdfabd just fine, but when I try to shrink it gets like 70% done and an error box pops up saying not enough memory to complete task.
When I open the file w/dvdfab it will open but then says failed 2000.

If anyone knows whats going on and /or how to fix it please reply, Thankx!

Amen babygrl...Use FixVTS or Vob Blanker to rewrite the dvd files that you ripped and you'll be good to go. I haven't used FixVTS but it looks easy enough. If you use Vob Blanker, just open up the video_ts.ifo from the VIDEO_TS directory that you ripped to your hard drive and then output it to another folder. Then hit process!! and you'll get a fixed up version on your hard drive that you can then DVD Shrink away with. Enjoy!

P.S. In case you're wondering what this is about, it's due to Macrovision's ripguard protection. I'd be willing to bet you're backing up either Madagascar, Valiant, or Sky High but that's just a guess. In any case, the out of memory nonsense is due to how they mess with the DVD structure and using one of the methods above you can fix it so that your shrink programs will work with it.

And you were right about the dvds, it was both sky high and madagascar...I thought it was a computer problem since those 2 dvds failed but i didnt pay attention that they were from the same company. In the future if I need help I'll just type in the dvd name when I do my search!

Yup, that's probably the best idea. Most likely someone will have experience with whatever title you're trying to back up. Ripguard has posed a minor inconvenience to some people using older transcoding programs. I use CloneDVD and AnyDVD for most of my backups and those work perfectly even on ripguard and arccos protected discs. Nonetheless, the methods we outlined for you here will likely work on most discs for the forseeable future.

You can also try using DVDFab Decrypter. It's a free program which is very regularly updated (the version below is current as of 12/18/05 in the channel log) that has proven quite useful for defeating ARccOS-protected titles, as well as Rip Guard. If the output gives you any hickups, chances are there'll be a fix within a few weeks with the next release.

It's not perfect, but it IS easy to use and usually gets it right the first time out. Otherwise, please consider clicking on the "Kill ARccoS" link in blutach's signature. There's some reading there, but the method is pretty stable and you'll find you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

babygrl stated that she used DVDFabD in her original message. But, unfortunately, DVD Shrink doesn't always like the output of Ripguard enabled titles. The method of using FixVTS or Vob Blanker will work both now and in the forseeable future. The kill ArCCOS method is using FixVTS in the background anyway as far as I know.

You don't even need to do the "reading" - the wizard takes you through all steps and of course, once you've done it once, you're an expert :)

The wizard allows you to use FixVTS (www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS) or VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) in phase 3. Normally FixVTS will be enough.

In defense of 'Fab, though, their updates will sometimes kill issues between their decrypter and others' shrinking programs. But since she(?)'s already tried it... *shrug!*

Yeah, that wizard's nice. It's SO nice, that even though I continually update DVDFab Decrypter, I rarely use it anymore. I like having it around... options are options... but still! I think people'd get a better perspective on why the wizard does what it does if they read through the guides, though. But it was your links that ...um... EDUCATED me on this method, and for those, I thank you. (There's no icon with a tipped hat, so I'll use this'n: :thanks: )

Personally I use Vob Blanker in combination with AnyDVD for the "stubborn" discs. Slysoft is usually very prudent about updating AnyDVD anyway, but, for those hard to deal with discs I've found this combination to rock. Of course, if you're using CloneDVD, as well, then Vob Blanker is almost always not necessary. I've looked at the wizard and have it installed on my machine "just in case" but I've never had to use it. Does seem simple enough.

HAHAHA! As for Fab, it's a decent program and Fengtao did a great service to the community by releasing the freeware version. It's updated regularly, as you said, which makes it valuable. But even with updates, there are times when there is a gap between the update and when you really want to back up the disc. Hence having alternative methods is nice. We'd all rather have more info than less. :)
