View Full Version : Removing .VOB files from DVD

Hi Everyone. I'm pretty new to backing up DVDs and would appreciate some advice.

When backing up a DVD, often, there are extras that, quite frankly, I could live without. A recent example is the promo for "Over The Hedge" and "Wallace And Grommit" on "Madagascar."

The file in question is VTS_04_1.VOB

Using Madagascar as an example, once I have the DVD copied to my Hard Drive, how can I remove this particular file? Simply deleteing it won't work, because DVDShrink detects that the file is missing, and won't shrink the DVD.

How do I overcome this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Glenn

Hi!

If you don't mind losing the menu, you can use DVD Shrink in "Re-author" mode to de-select any portions of the DVD that you don't wish to retain...

Gday Glenn and welcome to doom9!

Try VobBlanker - see link in my signature. Guides on site. The idea is to reduce unwanted VTSs to tiny blanks without changing the structure of the DVD. For what you want, you could just set it to "auto-blank" and go (this will blank all the extras - if you don't want that, you can blank selectively).

Or in DVD Shrink, you could simply use the "Still Image" function to replace the stuff you don't want.

Both these solutions preserve the menus.

G'day Blutach. I just checked it out, and VobBlanker does exactly what I was trying to do. Thanks for your help.

All the best,

Glenn
