View Full Version : Just hangs

I am having my first real problem with DVD Rebuilder. Not sure what info is needed but Using 1.05 Pro HC16, movie only everything works just fine until I reach the end of encoding - it reads 100% and then it just hangs.
I tried Avisynth 2.56A - it this a possible cause ? I have now downloaded 2.55 and hopefully installed it correctly.
No filters no fancy matrices just default settings apart from the change to avisynth.

I'm making progress. Having gone back to avisynth 2.55 I have succesfully backed up another movie. But even then my original movie failled. I had originally made an ISO and used Daomon tools to mount it. So next I left the movie in file form and also tried to backup the whole movie.
It no longer hangs at 100% but now at 70.4%. This reads Creating M2V for VTS_02 segment 13 ( which is the same as previously) and progress reads V02001300002006 - which again is as before. Looking in the D2VAVS folder
the v02001300002006.m2v file size is zero.
Is this problem the sort of thing mentioned in the change log for 1.05 ?
I've never had this problem before

I've never had this problem before No. The one mentioned in the log is very rare and only happens during PREPARE.

What encoder are you using? From your post it looks like the encoder is crashing during v02001300002006...

You weren't using the HC single pass mode by any chance were you?

No- Best Quality 2 pass mode. I'm now tring CCE basic- nine segments to go.
Before I came across DVD Rebuilder I used to just shrink if only 5 or 10% was needed and cut and burn to 2 disks for everything else. Now I'm having much more fun - well at least that's what I tell myself.

On an outside chance that it's a DGDecode problem, you might give Nan's build a try to see if you get any different results. You can find it and more info about it here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=101353).

Have you tried the Full Installer as opposed to the RB update?

yes - I have even tried a full system re-install. I use 1 machine just for burning.
Tried avisynth 2.56a , 2.55 DVD Rebuilder Pro 1.05, and 1.04, HC16, CCE basic,
DGDecode 1.1.0 . Have tried Movie only and full backup. Will give up for now and try again next year

Thanks - not sure how I'm supposed to do this. I downloaded DGDEcode 1.1.0 + SSE1 and replaced the version in the DVD Rebuilder folder. Is this correct ?
The process then seemed almost too quick each segment finishing at about 30%.
I don't know if it worked because everything still hung at the end.

It sounds more like a corrupt source. What decrypter did you use?

alsa sounds like its the same issue that has come up before - trim issue in the avs file

DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
I have been able to burn to 2 DVDs ( using shrink) so any corruption can not be fatal.

look in the work folder (where ever you have that set) you will see a lot of avs and flg files, find the one that is giving the error and open it in notepad and look for the trim value change the value on the left had side a few digits back.
from what i have read its an issue with gops or something - would give you a better desciption if i knew what i was on about :p

Well, as a last resort I would set a restore point using System Restore and use freeware RegSeeker Here (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm) or some other registry cleaner, make sure you tick the backup files if you use RegSeeker so you can undo any problems if they occur.
I would then delete all references to DVD Rebuilder, after that I would reboot then use the full installer to Reinstall DVD-RB.
Good Luck and Merry Christmas!
P.S. We don't get snow where I live, so no white Christmas here. :p

Thanks for the thought - but i doubt if its a system problem. I have tried on 3 different machines. for sytem images I use Acronis True Image. Anyway still have too much work to finish before the year end and as no other program has given me any problems I will put this one on the shelf for a while.

What disc is it? I've never actually seen the "hang up" problem. If I can repeat it, I can at least try to find what is causing it...
By the way, there really is no "Trim" issue. The trim statement DVD Rebuilder creates is correct. But from what I've read, I guess there is a sequence of frames in a stream that may confuse that version of DGDECODE. The "trim" change is a way to get around it. Of course to me this is all speculation -- because in close to 900 discs now backed up it has never happened to me.
Also, if possible, could you copy the REBUILDER.INI, REBUILDER.LOG, and REBUILDER.INF file into a zip and send them to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com?

Man... I wish it wasn't so damned hard to get R2 discs in the U.S... it would make my life a lot easier.

If you pick up a R1 copy of Reefer Madness, you can watch it hang if you want. You can read about the specifics here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=103025&highlight=reefer+madness).

Cool. I'll see if I can find it.
Is it the original classic, or has there been a remake?
Maybe it's time to update DVD-RB for a newer dgdecode.

Success. Having given up and used shrink to make 2 DVDs I wondered what would happen if I used shrink to put them back together and make an ISO ( 100% no compression). The Daemon tools and full Backup. Came to the end nothing seemed to be happening. So I paused and answered yes waited a while and nothing - paused again and tried Rebuild. I can't remember how many time I tried this and that but eventually it continued and produced an ISO. As far as I can tell everything looks and sounds fine. The only otjher clue is that the final frame, after the credits is no Grey not black. V02000800002006.m2v still read 0Kb so perhaps I simply forced the program past the glitch ? and fortunately the corrupt part was at the end of the credits ?

Again: Was this DVD having copy-protection ????
That you would see in DVD-DECRYPTER during the rip, replacing read-error sectors with dummy sectors ???
If it's NOT encoder specific and always at the same place, try to load it in DVD-RAMKE-PRO if you have it (you should buy it however, it's a pretty usefull tool !).
DVD-RAMKE-PRO will TRY to help finding problems in source and displays 'recovering cell information'as there are irregularities.
You can also use DVD_REMAKE pro to quickly CUT half the DVD , and see if you get problems with this DVD when playing back in a stand-alone player.
Try to save the 'problem part' with DVD-REMAKE-(PRO) and leave out the rest so it fits on a standard PC dvd.
Preferable is playing it back on a Sony (especially the somewhat older models), they WILL reject everything not in specs or make trouble about it.
Does SHRINK works ?
If yes, try the result on PC-dvd (RW preferable)
The second thing you can try, using DVD-REMAKE or some other tool you know (DVD-REMAKE is pretty user-friendly) to isolate the problem area, and adjust TARGETSECTORS, so you can quickly do trial on error. (you don;t have to wait so long).
But first make sure it was not copy protected by some bad sector scheme.

Glad you answered! I just just looking for places online to buy the old one... I was afraid I'd never find it locally.
