I got my email for version 1.05 pro yesterday and I didn't notice a link to the key at the bottom of the email as it usually includes. I didn't notice the key in the update zip file. Is this a new thing? Thanks.

Yes, its a new thing. Install on a machine with an active internet connection, and it will get its own key. Btw, there are many posts just below that all reference the new reg system. If you got an email with the links to your new version, you need to read the email. Here is the text that came with my links.
Worked fine on my machine, make sure to approve the key grabber with yur firewall first.

Dear DVD Rebuilder VIP,

Thank you for supporting DVD Rebuilder. A link for the
latest version upgrade (v1.05) can be found below.

PLEASE READ:

THE PROFESSIONAL EDITION WILL NOT
RUN UNLESS YOU HAVE ALSO DOWNLOADED
YOUR PERSONALIZED KEY AND INSERTED
THAT FILE INTO THE DVD-RB DIRECTORY.

THIS VERSION INCLUDES A UTILITY THAT
WILL AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD YOUR KEY
AND INSTALL IT. THE DOWNLOADED KEY
IS UNIQUE TO THIS VERSION AND YOUR
COMPUTER SYSTEM. KEYS FROM PREVIOUS
VERSIONS WILL NOT WORK.

The downloaded key is personalized to your unique computer via
a computed "System ID" and your registered e-mail address. It
will not work on other computers. If you need to run DVD-RB on
other computers for your personal use, you must use the Reg-RB
utility (included) to generate a unique system id and key for
other system(s).

DVD REBUILDER DOES NOT COLLECT OR
SEND ANY INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR
COMPUTER OR ITS CONTENTS OTHER THAN
WHAT IS SHOWN ON THE REGISTRATION
SCREEN. I HATE SPYWARE TOO.

Your registered e-mail address is limited to a total of five (5)
unique system IDs.

THE ONLY ADDRESS THAT WILL WORK TO
ENABLE YOUR COPY OF DVD REBUILDER IS
THE ONE TO WHICH THIS NOTICE HAS BEEN
SENT!!! ALL OTHERS WILL FAIL.

Your personalized key will only work if activated by using
your e-mail address. Please note that distributing your key
will result in your removal from the DVD-RB VIP list.

@jdobbs - congrats on a system that (at least for me) is easy to use and hopefully secures your IP more fully.

Updated both my machines in 60 seconds flat. :thanks:

Just upgraded to the new version. I must say that it was very easy to do. Now I'm gonna put it to work!

I like the new system too, very simple and unobtrusive. Keep up the good work.

i'm a little bit worried about this new system as it does not seem possible to use rb on machines without i-net access!?

DK not true, you only need acces once, then you can unplug it

I suppose the IP isn't checked......

You have to generate keys for different machnines....

I guess JDOBBS took a look at the way DVD-REMAKE-PRO is protected, becuase it sounds it's exacltly the same way of behaviour....

Not so nice however, because removing/adding hardware changes machine ID's.....

But let's first try it, I stayed at 1.04 for a while....

I suspect if you add/remove hardware you can run Reg-RB.exe again on your modified machine. It is clear jdobbs isn't trying to (or going to) stop legal owners putting DVDRB on 5 machines.

Yep,. and if you use only one machine and youre ID is going to change for the sixth time, youre denied to generate a key file............

Probably.....

sorry, but that doesnt help in any way when using a machine WITHOUT i-net access and there still are scenarios where pcs might not be connected to the internet at all

@DK
All you have to do is copy the "Reg-RB.exe" file (it's under Rebuilder Installation folder) to the "non-connected" and run it... take a note of th generated ID.

Go to the connected PC, run "Reg-RB.exe" insert the ID of the non-connected mannually and download the key.

Then copy the key into the non-connected pc... easy, isn't it? :)

A thanks from me as well Rockas. I just downloaded the new version and saw the new key stuff in the email. I use DVD-RB on a machine that does not connect to the internet and your explanation should allow me to update quickly without having to think too much. ;)

Thanks.

From the comments I've gotten back, most people like it... but unfortunately a little less than 1 out of every 100 people seem to be unable to connect to the server (usually firewall issues), so I had to send them the key manually. That's unacceptable to me, as I think people should expect instant delivery of a product that is distrubted through the internet.

I'm working to see what I can come up with to make it work for 100%.

@apfraats

The SYSTEM ID should be constant except for major system changes (like replacing your computer or installing another OS).

@jdobbs
I could not connect to the server even closing my firewall (ZoneAlarm), so that doesn't seem to be the problem...

I wish I knew. There are probably 10 or more other firewalls and access control lists between your source and the server... I'm still investigating. I really like this method and would like to see it work 100% of the time. It only takes a second or two and you're up-and-running. Instant gratification is what the internet is all about...

Pippo By the way, did you send an e-mail requesting a key? There are instruction in the "HELP" area of the "Download Dialog" in the event you have a connection problem.

Yeah, thank you, I did it yesterday, and you've already sent me the key, the new version works perfectly, thank you very much for your support!

I've just tried the test version of the DB-Reg you just sent, it works for me!

downloaded and upgraded to the new version. all worked fine.

My only concern is that is the computer ID. I have a habit of upgrading my system bit by bit on a regular basis. I wonder if my computer ID will change in the future and stop me from upgrading?

Guess if I have problems i can always email jdobbs for assistance.

cheers

I don't think it will be a problem. But I'm always an e-mail away.
