Menu buttons don't show up in PgcEdit

This is not the first time I've encountered this but it's never been a problem until now. The first menu of Valiant is an animated clip that ends with two buttons. These show up in both set-top and software players. However these menu buttons don't show up either in the preveiw window in PgcEdit nor can they be edited with the menu button editor because the PGC contains no buttons according to the comment column.

I'd like to bypass this menu and have the program chain continue as if a certain button had been pressed. This DVD has a very complicated program structure with many branches to 'dummy' PGCs with many gprm modificatons so it is too difficult to trace in a reasonable amount of time. (It also contains a small amount of structure protection but the 'wiz' took care of that ;))

Is there a way I can find out what the ('invisible') button does or somehow edit the menu to alter the button's behavior?

jeanlNo they don't. That's the problem. When you let it play the first button has been chosen by default. The first button is highlighted by default in the software or set-top player.

What you have is BOVs (buttons over videos), pretty rare but not unknown: you have a menu in the title domain (vts_09_1.vob). PgcEdit supports that, but you have to enable the "Automatically launch bov finder when DVD is opened" in the options/input-output.
Then reopen your DVD, and it will find 2 buttons in PGC1 of VTS9 (it does for me). To edit these, you right=click on the PGC, and chose BOV...

You can also search for BOVs from within PgcEdit, without having to reload the DVD. Use the menu File -> Find BOVs.

Voila!Yes they now show up and I can see what the commands are. So now it's simply a matter of adding that one button command to the head of the pre commands and the program goes directly to the real main menu. Nice.

Usually BOVs are used for choosing angles not menu items. N'est-ce pas? But there's always a first time. It is definitely not standard but neither is the structure-protection used on this DVD. Nor is the labyrinthian PGC branching. Did you see how convoluted it is? Guess they'll try anything to thwart anyone "tampering" with (improving, really) their precious authoring. Even desecrating the DVD spec.

But PgcEdit rises to the challenge once again. And, as I mentioned before, the wiz' took care of that mean ol' structure protection. ;)
