View Full Version : Many Trys - Very Few Good DVD Burns

In what can only be called a relentless pursuit for a way to record DVD movies, I am quickly becoming not a newbie, but given this is my first post and given how seemingly strict the rules are, I thought I'd post here.

I have mastered DVD Decrypt. Playback of the file on the computer using PowerDVD verifies that the data has properly transfered from the DVD to the harddrive.

Using DVD Shrink and Nero, I try putting the first 20 chapters and a "Next Disk" image onto a TDK DVD-R disk. It takes almost the whole disc with 0 compression.

Here are the playback results:
Playback of the DVD on the same PC and burner works fine.
Playback on a DVD player works but as it nears the latter part of the disk, the image gets jerky, checkered and eventually freezes and stops.

Happens on other movies as well if they are long.

DVD blanks are 8x TDK 25 pack.

Have not tried slowing speed. How do I force this if DVD Shrink controls Nero?

Any other things I should try?

Hi!

This is a very typical indication of poor quality media. To determine the capabilities/limitations of your DVD burner, as well as media compatibility, go to:

www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters

(If necessary, open the Device Manager in the Control Panel to determine the make and model number)

To determine the capabilities/limitations of your specific brand and model of standalone DVD player, as well as media compatibility, go to:

www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

You might also try lowering your burn speed...

Just create an ISO with dvdshrink, then open it in NERO and decide your burn speed, I solved many problems going from 8x down to 4x.

What media are you using (media ID code)? Is your burner's firmware up to date? Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49635).

Ner0 is probably not the best solution. I'd use DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn to burn.

For lower quality media, try reducing DVD Shrink's target size in Edit --> Preferences to a custom size of 4300Mb.
