View Full Version : DVD Shrink Can't See My Burner Drive

I recently had my PCs hard drive crash and lost everything. So, I had to download DVD43 and DVD Shrink again onto the new hard drive.

Before the crash, I had a nice little system for making backup copies of DVD movies. All I had to do was pop the movie into my DVD-RW drive with DVD43 running and as soon as the little Devil turned into a nice smiley face, I would open the now decrypted dvd (movie) with DVD Shrink. I would then select "Re-Author" and prepare to copy the main movie only.

My problem now is that DVD Shrink can't see my DVD-RW drive for some reason, so my only choices when selecting "Backup" in DVD Shrink are "Image Recorder" and "Hard Disk Folder". No DVD-RW drive! Anyone know why DVD Shrink isn't finding it? THanks.

I really don't know anything about DVDShrink because I never used it.
But I do know that you most surely need ASPI drivers installed for that kind of tools to control CD/DVD recorders.
So try to download/install ASPI drivers.
Some of the most well known are Adaptec's and Ahead's.
Check their site.
I'm currently using Ahead's wnaspi32.dll with DVDDecrypter and they work fine.
All I had to do was download that file from www.ahead.de and copy it to DVDDecrypter's folder although I'm sure I could have copied the file to c:\windows or even c:\windows\system32.
Give it a shot, seems like you've got nothing to loose.

Hi!

Were you previously using NERO as the burning tool DVD Shrink used? if so, NERO must be installed on your system BEFORE you install DVD Shrink. Additionally, you have to set DVD Shrink to "Burn with NERO"...

yes, setarip_old, I was using NERO on the old hard drive. I did notice from your post that I had installed DVD Shrink to the new hard drive before installing NERO, so I uninstalled Shrink and then re-installed, but am still having the same problem. Shrink is set to "Burn with NERO."

I never had to download and install ASPI drivers before, so I don't want to do that now if I don't have to.

Any other suggestions anyone? Thanks.

Does ANY of your software "see" the burner?

Use the Nero Clean tool and reboot. It might do the trick. It corrects errors in the registry.
