Is there an AMD compatible motherboard that supports DDR2? If not, does anyone know if such a device is in the works?

Because the memory controller is integrated in the athlon 64 cpu the current AMD processors doesn't support DDR2 but the upcomming AMD processors for socket M2 will support/requere DDR2. Currently some of the ASROCK (http://www.asrock.com/index_english.html) motherboards can be upgraded to socket M2 (but you will ofcourse need a socket M2 processor).

Thanks, I appreciate the information.
Is there any word on when these new processors might hit the market?
Is there enough advance technical information on them to determine whether they might be as stable as the older versions; running more effieciently at lower clock speeds and thereby running cooler? It would be a shame if they produced a power hungry supernova like the current Intel LGA775 family.

It seems to be basicly the same processor as the current athlon 64 just with a memory controller that supports DDR2

until AMD releases DDR2 compatible processors, for now, you can obtain close performance from motherboards for AMD, with high speed dual channel memory .

take in mind that ddr-2 didnt show anything better that ddr-1 up to now.all hardware world records are with ddr-1 and will still remain for long if ddr-2 keeps stucked at ridiculous cas3 timings.

Regarding high speed dual channel DDR-1, in your opinion, what speed would best simulate DDR-2?

ddr2 at 533 could be equal of a ddr1 at 450 or even less.with tight timings at about 2.5-2-2-5...which can be gained from good memories and timings of 2-2-2-5 from top memories ddr-2 eats dust....well I would wait to see how m2 socket would go but with current timings of ddr-2 at 3-4-4-8 and worse timings dont believe that they could even touch a nice pair of tccd memories or bh-5...

Ok...the nearest I could come to that with my bargain basement components was 2.5-3-3-5@ 420mhz. I also pushed the Athlon 3500+ to 2.32 Ghz (amazing, I know..lol). I see a minor improvment over default settings, but not much.
Performance is nevertheless increased, so can't really complain.

Not 100% true. Many SuperPI records have been broken with a Pentium and DDR2.
Remember DDR2 is not the problem here. It's the fact Intels memory controller is still a stand alone chip. AMD's intergrated controller should do a lot better + Im sure there will be some enhanced bandwidth modules especially for AMD when the time comes.

Latest news from CeBit 2006:
AMD IS PLAYING a very interesting game when it comes to future memory standards. By integrating a memory controller onto the CPU die, the company has full control over information and all that motherboard manufacturers have to do is make a voltage regulator for the DIMM slots and some trace correction on the PCB, if necessary.
What surprised us was a talk with one of rhw motherboard engineers. Our source claims that AMD's Socket AM2 delay is actually the by-product of "engineering change at (the) last moment". He claims his company has to redesign the PCB more than "others", since they need to support DDR-II 800 and DDR-II 1066 memory standards.
Does this means AMD will support DDR-II memory clocked at 400/533/667/800/1066 MHz?
