I've been playing around with GUI for DVDAuthor (GFD) and am really impressed with the functionality of this ABSOLUTELY FREE authoring tool. (Though save your work every few minutes, as it can crash if you start clicking on things too quickly). Though it's easy to get click-on buttons in the DVD menu that play each title, it was not clear how to create a "Play All" button in the main Title menu which would play all of the Video Titles you've added to a GUI for DVDAuthor project. By experimenting with the program for a day, I've come up with a method that uses GUI for DVDAuthor and PCG Edit. This guide assumes you have basic familiarity with Editing Commands in PCG Edit. Hope this proves useful to someone else who wants a Play All button for their authored DVDs! Many thanks go out to the creators of DVDAuthor and GFD for their hard work!
***Crude but effective way to Make a Play All Command Using GUI for DVDAuthor and PGC Edit***
In GUI for DVDAuthor (GFD), set up a button labeled “Play All”. Give it a simple “Action” (e.g. audio=1;). We will change the function of this button later in PGC Edit.
Before creating DVD and closing GFD note the ORDER in which you want to play the titles. (The title numbers have been assigned in the order that you dragged and dropped the film clips into the GUI menu. This may not be the order in which you want them played using a Play All command).
Click on “Create DVD” and Exit GUI for DVDAuthor.
Open PGC Edit. Select VMGM, LU 1 (en), 1 TitleM. Select the green “MENU” button from the toolbar on top. This will allow you to edit the button commands. When the Menu graphic appears, click on the “Play All” button you set up.
Click on the box immediatly below the menu graphic which shows the current command assigned to your Play All button. This will open up a PgcEdit Command Editor box. Change the button to the following action:
(JumpSS) Jump to VMGM PGC 2
We will add VMGM PGC 2 and its commands in the next step. Close the PgcEdit Command Editor then the Menu Button windows.
Now create new PGCs in the VMGM by clicking on the “chain” graphic tool in the tool bar (“New PGC”). Add n+1 new VMGM PGCs for n titles (e.g. if you have 8 titles you want to play in “Play All” add 9 (nine) new PCGs in the VMGM (VMGM 2 through VMGM 10). Let’s assume 8 titles for our example.
Now jot down a table showing which VMGM PCG each title should Call once the title is done playing, in order to then jump to the next Title in the Play All series, e.g.
TT Returns to -> VMGM PGC
2 3
3 4
5 5
1 6
4 7
8 8
6 9
7 10
Now choose two variables that are not currenly used by your DVD. Since GFD leaves most unused, I tend to use gprm 6 and 7.
Into the blank VMGM 2 put in the following pre-command lines:
[71 00 00 07 00 02 00 00] 1 Set gprm(7) =(mov) 2
[71 00 00 06 00 02 00 00] 2 Set gprm(6) =(mov) 2
[30 02 00 00 00 02 00 00] 3 (JumpTT) Jump to Title 2
(assuming Title 2 is the first one you want to play in “Play All”. If it isn't put in the correct Title number.)
VMGM 3 – 9 should each consist of one pre-command lines:
[30 02 00 00 00 03 00 00] 1 (JumpTT) Jump to Title “X”
(where each x is the title you want to play in the sequence you jotted down in your table above.)
The last VMGM, (VMGM 10 in our example), will be called after the last title in your play list has run: it will re-set the GPRM registers you’ve used for this Play All function, and return you to the Main Menu. VMGM 10 has the following pre-command lines:
[71 00 00 07 00 01 00 00] 1 Set gprm(7) =(mov) 1
[30 06 00 00 00 42 00 00] 2 (JumpSS) Jump to VMGM Title menu
It’s also a good idea to put the following line in the pre-command for VMGM, LU 1 (en), 1 TitleM:
[71 00 00 06 00 C8 00 00] 2 Set gprm(6) =(mov) 200
Now insert the post command shown below as the first post command after each Title (TTN):
********** pre commands:
[71 00 00 01 00 00 00 00] 1 Set gprm(1) =(mov) 0
[00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00] 2 NOP
********** post commands:
[30 28 00 03 01 C0 07 06] 1 if ( gprm(7) == gprm(6) ) then { (CallSS) Call the VMGM PGC X, resume cell 1 }
[30 08 00 01 01 C0 00 00] 2 (CallSS) Call the VMGM PGC 1, resume cell 1
********** cell commands:
Where “X” in Call the VMGM PGC X is the VMGM PGC from the table you made above. (E.g. for Title 2, we would use Call the VMGM PGC 3, and for Title 3 we would use Call the VMGM PGC 4, etc.
Save the DVD under the PCG Edit File menu, and you should now have a fully-functional “Play All” button in your new DVD! It's a good idea to check it works with Media Player Classic.
Hope I havent confused anyone. Good Luck.
