and what's it like? I see it's Nero digital so does that mean an ESS inside it? I heard report that the DVD-500 and the 339 both have 16:9 display problems which could well indicate the ESS chipset?

Not necessarily....

This player could be fitted with an Zoran Vaddis 7 (776) chip-set, or maybe even one of Sigma's chip-sets... although the latter is unlikely if the player is offering "full" NeroDigital support and not just basic .MP4 file playback!
