Because of many changes and a different development, Cdeblend is now a seperate avs function. This release works far better than the last version, has new modes and more parameters to tweak the detection.
You need masktools (included in the zip) to run this function.
Everything is updated, also the readme (maybe with many mistakes). Hope the function is useful against many blending problems. :)

Small update. Omode 4 is added. You can use it to get a better feeling for the right konfiguration.

Cdeblend is updated.
- Dmode 2 and 3 are removed. The other modes works clearly better.
- Average isnīt needed anymore for dmode 1
- the motion thresholding is improved
- smaller code, but no speed or quality changes
FixBlendIVTC and Crestore will be also updated soon. Then I want to concentrate on another project.

And another version is out (0.95b).
Changes are:
- added mil parameter for motion-influence-limiting
- faster and better dmode 1
- new dmode 2 for low motion blend detection (slower than dmode 0 and 1, but faster than old dmode 1)
- updated to newest masktools version (2 alpha 26)

Cdeblend is now finalized.
There are many many changes from the last version:
- better compatibility to decimators (much better, but still not save)
- new parameters and much more tweakable
- new quality mode
- new omode that includes the possibility of the Cdeblend modifications (but works better)
- the dthreshing is now able also for the other omodes
There are still some more ideas about this in my head, but if Iīll plan to release another version it will be a plugin and no function anymore.
I hope this function is helpful against some of your blending problems.

Could someone take a quick look at this sample (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K5JXTTY1) I've uploaded. It comes from a documentary DVD produced by the BBC. I'm not sure what has been done to screw this up and therefore cannot figure out which of MOMonster's scripts (including restore24?) would work for this since I'm not familiar working with field blended materials. Any help is appreciated.

First look with virtualdub looks like a normconversion. You need to restore the pal source with repal or restore24(Didee's function:) ).
Next week I think I`ll release Mrestore 2.0 that should also do the job (current is not so good for ntsc sources).
The spider gives less motion without a good fluency, so repal can make problems. Restore24 works also better for pal than for ntsc sources (but still mostly better than last official Mrestore).
You should test what works best for you.
I'll test my current version and reply next week.

I'll try both and see what looks better...that is until your Mrestore 2.0, but for future reference so I can learn from this source, can you describe what's happened here in a somewhat step-by-step manner? For instance, was it shot in pure interlaced PAL then fieldblended up to interlaced NTSC? Or was it shot in film, pulledup to PAL then back to NTSC? Etc. etc. What is the definition of "normconversion (normal conversion?)" I notice that when stepping through some fields have been duplicated and some fields are blends. I'd really like to know how to describe how something like this was created. It sure would be great if there was a guide to all the different types of blendings and possible restoration methods complete with video test clips and avisynth functions/scripts.

Sorry I lost the sample on my usb stick, but I downloaded it again and will test it.
I was asked a lot for such a guide or bigger explanation and I allready give the answer that the next release will have a lot more description of this problem.

Thanks. I'm interested, of course, in exactly what is going on with my sample, but also from a broader perspective in knowing how to detect blended fields, how the clip got that way (i.e. standards conversion, etc.) and best options for restoration. I look forward to what you have to say.

Yes, I mean a general guide to detecting any sort of blended fields activity and not just specific to my source (which I'm only using for testing/learning purposes).
Maybe you have a low motion pan in your source.
But the entire source displays this pattern of field blending. In any case, I'll try this new version.

Understood. But are you saying you will eventually add some code for low-motion pans? What would happen if there was a scene or two that did have low-motion pans and you used your script on them?
Also, is there such thing as a restore function to take (my sample, for example) 30i back to 50p? Or is this limited to a restoration of 25p?

Yes I want to add such code for the final release, but I just have no samples I can test with. I think I will create myself. Iīll find a pal source with such pans. Itīs just some extra work.
If you use Mrestore on such scenes, the output could be not total fluid, not as smooth as the original pal source, but this wonīt have any effects on the other scenes.
I have never seen a 30i source normconverted from 50p, maybe thatīs why I donīt know about any function for this case.

Good that you remind me. The german version is ready since some weeks. I have a lot other things to do, especially in the university, itīs time for the tests. Also the translation needs more time than I thought. Please have some patience, results will come.

The source would have been 25p, probably film. Remember for the PAL market, made for TV content is routinely shot on film at 25p, not 24p. Most natural history (wildlife) content shot by the BBC Bristol natural history unit used to be film, but HD video is now more common.
There is no 50p motion in there to "restore", though you could try to create it (fake it with mvtools) if you wanted to.
Remember too in PAL countries we don't usually think about pulldown/up. You take 1 film frame, it becomes 1 video frame. That's it. It happens to sometimes be transmitted as two interlaced fields, but it's still 1 film frame - and telecines and editors usually honour the field dominance (always frame-change or cut before the top field). In the digital video world, you don't have to do anything to it to get it to or from that state.
(There are exceptions, e.g. mistakes which shift it all by one field, so a single frame contains half of each of two film frames. Against BBC and ITA guidelines. Horrible, but fixable).
It's possible the PAL>NTSC conversion took the PAL video, treated it as if it was an interlaced source (which it wasn't) and field blended it to NTSC. It's also possible the conversion took account of the fact that the source was progressive, but decided to create blended fields anyway - AVIsynth's convertFPS will do that for you - or at least it will give you blended frames which you can SelectEvery into fields. Gives a slightly smoother look than hard 3-2 (or the more complicated equivalent to get 25p to 60i).
I know it's an experiment, but if you actually wanted this footage, you could just buy the "PAL" version (if available) - none of this crappy processing, and slightly higher resolution too.

Hi, noob here,
I want to restore a field blended NTSC source which was transferred to PAL DVD (25fps). How can i use Mrestore? I have copied the files in the zip over to my plugins directory but i can't seem to find any instructions on how to use it to restore to 24fps + deinterlace.
