viewing partially created mp4 files

14 hours into an encode X264 froze on me, so what I would like to know is whether there is anyway to veiw the partially completed mp4 file?

i assume the mp4 file has no index.
you could try exporting the video stream with every tool imagineable to raw or to other formats, maybe you are lucky and one tool doesnt rely on the index?

mp4 can't be parsed without an index, and index is written last. If the file has exactly one stream, and the muxer is writing frames in one large mdat box, then you could ignore mp4 headers and treat it as a raw h264 bitstream.
