Can't read DVD with DVDFab, DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter, and DVDClone.

I want to backup my Destinos Spanish course DVDs. Can't seem to read the DVDs with a number of software products. With DVDFab, I get "Get DVD information fail. [1000]". With DVDClone, I get "Failed to obtain information from source. The source is not in DVD-Video format." I can play the DVDs on my computer and I can copy other DVDs using DVDFab. What am I missing? Thx.

Hi!

The title certainly doesn't sound like one that would have any special copy protection, so I'd speculate that the discs are either dirty or damaged.

Try cleaning the discs and then use DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 to rip. If you again get a similar error you might want to return the DVDs to the place of purchase in exchange for a new set...

Hello, thanks for replying. I can play the DVDs just fine on the computer and on my standalone DVD player. I don't think there's a problem with the DVDs. If I can find DVD Decrypter 3.5.4, I'll try reading them with that. Any other ideas?

Also, I did try DVD Decrypter, but I'm not sure which version (I'm not on my home computer right now). No luck with whatever version I used.

Playing and ripping are two different things. Players (both software and hardware) are often able to compensate for minor "glitches", while most ripping programs seek perfection.

Again, I'd suggest you try cleaning the DVDs...

Just a thought, might want to verify the region code on the disc your trying to rip.

Sorry, I just noticed this error message. Are these, in fact "DVD-Video" format? Can you play them on a standalone DVD player?

If not, and if they aren't copy protected, you should be able to use NERO by simply selecting the "Copy DVD" icon...

Well, I don't know for sure if they are in DVD-Video format. Forgive me for being such an ignorant newbie. All I know is that I can play them on the DVD player on my computer and on my standalone player. One thing -- I was trying to read them with DVDFab, DVD Shrink, etc. using the DVD player on my computer thinking that I would copy them onto my external hard drive and take the drive to a friend's who has a DVD burner. Am I just not thinking straight about this?

If they play on a standalone DVD player, then they are very likely in DVD-video format (I doubt that anyone would create DivX-compressed .AVIs on DVDs for courses ;>}) - assuming, of course, that you are correct in stating that they are DVDs and not VCDs!

1) In Windows Explorer, what is shown for the total combined filesize of one of the discs?

2) Have you tried using Windows Explorer to simply copy the discs to your hard drive?

There are two directories on the DVD -- AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. There are no subdirectories or files below AUDIO_TS, but VIDEO_TS has a collection of files with extension of ".BUP", "IFO", and "VOB". The DVD has 3,978,919,936 bytes.

When I downloaded DVD Decrypter, what I ended up with was DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.2. When I try running it, I get "Failed to obtain information from source. The source is not in DVD-Video format. Please insert a valid DVD movie disk." There's nothing in the log other than that the program started.

I'll try copying the contents of the DVD to my external hard disk using Windows Explorer.

1) DVD Decrypter is a DIFFERENT PROGRAM than DVDFab Decrypter...

2) The format ("VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS") and combined filesizesubstantiates that it is definitely a set of DVDs...

Just to get one thing straight.
Have you ever successfuly ripped a DVD to your harddrive with your current installation/setup?
For safety, get another DVD title and try to rip it with DVDfab Decrypter Free.
If you are successful then it's most surely a problem with that specific DVD title.
But I really think you ought to try DVDDecrypter.
It is way faster than DVDFab and it uses much less CPU resources.
The only downside is that you'll have to use use it either with PLS files or along side with AnyDVD if you run into Sony's latest protections.
But I'm sure you'll love it anyway.

Do you know where I can get DVD Decrypter? Can't seem to find it. I googled it and downloaded what was supposed to be DVD Decrypter but what I ended up with was DVDFab Decrypter.

I am able to copy the physical files from the DVDs to my external hard drive. Not sure if that means anything yet because I don't have a burner and can't yet test if those copied files are usable for anything. Was planning on taking the external hard drive to a friend's and use his burner.
