Advice on good filters for aliasing on edges?

Does anyone have a recommendation for the good filters they have found for fixing aliasing on lines from VHS>>MPEG2 converted source? (anime)

That is an example of what I'm dealing with. I know there are numerous filters available, so I was wondering of people could share their personal experience.

Finally, your picture shows aliasing of lines; is that what you are calling dot crawl?

Yeah sorry, I don't normally work with VHS converted source, so I wasn't sure what to call it.

I don't know any way to fix that bad aliasing (breaking up of lines). You need to recapture the material at full resolution and then process it properly. Where'd you get this material?

It's off of HK DVD so I'm basically SOL then on the recapturing part. It's a really obscure series from the early 90s, so I highly doubt I could find better.

Nero's DVD filters do the same thing: deinterlacing by throwing a field away and vertical point-resizing.

@neuron: what about using "separatefields().selectodd().EEDI2(field=0)" on it? As far as I know it's supposed to reconstruct opposing fields by splines or something.

I may be entirely off, I haven't actually touched the filter yet, just seen your comments on it. ^^;

Isn't SangNom supposed to do antialiasing? If not, maybe he can try SoulHunter's AAA() function.

i did just that yesterday with a similar source (field-discarded, bilinear upsize... the guys that supply it to us seem to think we like it deinterlaced, but truth be told if we told them not to deinterlace we'd see even more problems with wrong field-order, progressive resizing, etc, ad infinitum. it's amazing how people can become editors without at least a basic understanding of the medium they are editing for.)

Those lines are really, really jaggy. The AAA function repeated multiple times would be my guess, but it'll change the overall look, so I somehow doubt you'll turn this into something good-looking.

Unfortunately I haven't worked with masks yet in AVS, so I'll have to look up info on that on the forums then and try it. I appreciate the replies everyone.
