I had the same problem when my burner began to fail. If the halos aren't visible before you burn, it's probably not the media.

my burner started to die a month ago, i got a couple of halos here and there, but never any coasters
since then, i'd replaced my burner, i wonder, are dvd-r with halo consider coasters?, cause i am able to extract the data to my pc, unfortunately, i can't verify if the data contains any glitches

After having some bad experiences with buying spindles of Ritek (I had some spindles of 8X that had visible glitches in the dye on maybe three out of every ten disks) I normally stick to Maxell or Memorex. Yes, I know that they're rebadged Riteks, but they seem to have higher standards applied to them. Verbatim's also a good brand to go with, I've found.
What burning software are you using? And can you verify whether your burned disks have bad sectors on them? I have, in the past, had uneven burns with Nero 6 that never seemed to be an issue using CopytoDVD 3 or even burning ISOs with DVD Decrypter. You could try downloading CopytoDVD's trial (fully functional for 30 days) and trying it to see if that solves things for you. Link's below.

i'm using nero 6, how can i find out if they contain bad sectors?
i'd already replaced my burner, since then, none of my g04 had any halos (but its' only been 4 burns so far)

Using Nero 6? Cool; there's a tool on it that'll make this easy!
Start by putting one of the questionable disks in your DVD drive, and cancel out any annoying "what-do-you-want-me-to-do" Windows messages that may spring up.
If you've got a "Nero StartSmart" icon on your desktop, go ahead and open it. In the interface that opens, you should see three options to the left edge: Applications (which will probably already have a drop-down list visible), Nero Toolkit, and Manuals. You'll want to expand Nero Toolkit. Out of the drop-down box that you expose, select
"Nero CD-DVD Speed." When this program opens, you'll see that there are several tabs, labeled with such names as "Benchmark" and "Disk Quality," ect. "ScanDisk" is what we're looking for. So long as you have Nero aimed at the drive your disk is in, the only things you'll need to do are A)make sure the "Read Test" option is selected, and B) click "Start." Then have some tea, because the surface scan test will take a bit of time... not hours, but longer than you may care to sit and watch.
Red dots represent bad sectors, with green dots representing good sectors. It's usually alright to have a FEW red spots here and there: DVD players normally read so fast that the occassional bad sector blurs right by. If your disk has several red areas, you'll know that there's bad sectors present on the disk. Clicking the "Disk Quality" tab will open a whole new set of tests that you might find useful.
By all means, tinker with this tool and have fun with it: It'll solve a lot of burning problem mysteries.

Ritek G05 is widely known as media-to-avoid. I have heard from many people that
these become useless after only a few months. Generally speaking, it's not wise to save
on cheap media, since you'll end up losing your data and would have to pay twice
for disks.

Sorry to ask, but what is a "HALO"??
The new Verbtim medias called "pearl white" are also RITEK G05 - Haven't had any issues on those
I verify all the time with Imgburn after burning

Just search google "RITEK G05" and see yourself. Btw, data integrity straight after
burning means nothing yet. Because after a few months, after it start deteriorate,
you'll just wont find half of your data. To see what's really happening, use PI/PO
tests.

Do I perform the PI/PO tests with Dvdinfo pro?? and is it the same as Nero's surface testing?
I have a Plextor 716A will I have to use Plextools on that one?
Btw, I think it sounds unlikely that Verbatim would put their name on medias that will hold its data no longer than a few months. Could it be just some of the medias that use the RITEJ G05 die??

The problem is that they vary from spindle to spindle. Sometimes people having
no problems using them, sometimes vice versa. If you're ready to take risks, then
go ahead. Novadays more and more manufacturers selling rebadged RITEK's.
I've heard that MAXELL's G05 are ok. But again, there's no way to be sure.

Nero CD-DVDSpeed have similar test called "disc quality". DVDINFO & PLEXTOOLS are
both able to do the same task, don't remember though, how is it called there.

Ok, thanx
Just installed the Plextools Professional XL 3.05
When I select PI/PO test I get to choose between:
SUM8 TEST
SUM1 REST
BASIC TEST
BURST TEST
I tried the first two, and when getting the results I don't know how to evaluate the score....??
Any ideas?
