Hello, and welcome to the forum.
MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 are video codec (compression/decompression) technologies, they are not end results. For example, the video streams in your DVD are encoded in MPEG-2, so ... you already have your video in an MPEG-2 format. Now what? :rolleyes:Do you want to make video discs, for playback in standalone players? DVDs and SuperSVCDs use MPEG-2. Read Doom9's guides (www.doom9.org/guides.htm) about DVD backup into those formats.
Do you want to play your videos on a PC, MAC, palmtop, or cellphone? MPEG-4 codec technologies of all sorts are used for this purpose. Common examples: creating .avi files containing video compressed with the DivX or XviD codecs.
Do you want to play MPEG-4 media on a standalone DVD player capable of it? These use the same processes as the above.MPEG-4 compressed video from CD or DVD media.Figure out what you're trying to do, let *us* know, and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction. You'll feel a little lost, initially. So did all of us. We got over it; you will too. Good luck!

Thanks...actually I'm getting a PSP for Christmas and I'm wanting to put some movies into MPEG-4 format as that is the format that the PSP reads. I downloaded PSP Video 9...I think it compresses the video to that mpeg4. I'm not sure, though. However, when I use DVD Shrink...it gives me a file folder with the files in a IFO file...video_ts. That isn't mpeg2, right?

Thanks...actually I'm getting a PSP....There are 31 threads in Doom9's forum with "PSP" in the title, and 151 threads that mention the device. I suggest learning to use Advanced Search (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?). I find that either searching for keywords by title, or, having the results return as individual posts works best for me. YMMV. ....However, when I use DVD Shrink...it gives me a file folder with the files in a IFO file...video_ts. That isn't mpeg2, right?Yes, as I said above, DVD's structures contain MPEG-2 video streams. I recommend taking a look at Doom9's DVD Structure Guide (http://www.doom9.org/dvd-structure.htm). For more on DVDs, see The Official DVD FAQ (http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html). You'll find both these and another 10 guides for new members in a section at Doom9's website called The Basics (http://www.doom9.org/dvd-basics.htm).

And if you can't find anything and have Nero Ultra, use Nero Recode to Recode to "Nero Digital" which is MP4.
