you'd have to do that through directshow i think. make a custom graph in graphedit with compressors, etc in it, then load your wav with directshowsource("file.wav",video=false)

if it's an ac3, then just use directshowsource and choose whatever DRC you want in the ac3 decoder that's being used.

or you could extract the audio and put it in an audio-specific program like audition, or a freeware equivalent.

I might be going for the biggest necropost of all time here but, is there still not any way to do dynamic range compression from within avisynth? It would be much more convenient than having to load up something like audacity.

Try the compand or mcompand effects in SoxFilter.
