View Full Version : Choosing matrix for VTS

I'm trying to encode Desperate Housewives S1 Disc1. VTS 1-4 are 4 episodes, and VTS 13 and 14 are extras. How does DVD-RB determine which VTS is the "main movie" and which are the extras? It seems to think VTS 3 is the "main movie" since it has a 2nd audio track (director commentary. I want to specify a different matrix for VTS 13 and 14 but I can't figure out how to do that in DVD-RB Pro 1.04. I've figured out that the Quantization Matrices section has been moved to the Options tab, but how does RB know when to use the "Matrix for Extras" or "Very Low Bitrate Matrix"? Hope you guys can help, thanks.

Hi J-Wo,
at the moment it's impossible to do this with RB, because RB decides the biggest VTS to be the main movie all others extras.
So this doesn't work with episodes DVDs.
My recommendation: Set all matrices to be the same like main movie, run prepare, open RB-Opt (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=24) and change the matrix there for VTS 13 and 14.

That is what I was *going* to do. But I've recently experimented with HC encoder and found the results with the Best profile to be better than the CCE encodes I'd done previously. And unfortunately, RB-Opt only allows you to change the matrix if you're using CCE! Hopefully they'll add HC support in the future. In the meantime, I've discovered where the matrices are inputted in rebuilder.ecl so I'll just open the file and change the matrix for VTS 13 and 14.
jdobbs: do you think instead of the way matrices are handled in RB, you might change it so the user can select which matrix is used for each VTS under the advanced options? I think that's better than the current system.

You can try it as well with RME (Rebuilder Matrix Editor), but I had the problem, that in my case RME didn't update Rebuilder.ecl.

No, that's not the purpose of RME. All it will do is change what RB uses for "Matrix for Main Movie" or "Matrix for Extras". And even then you will have to re-run the prepare step in RB in order for the changes to become effective in your current project. But you can't select a particular matrix for a particular vts
