It's not very good, that MP4Box places "mdat" atom before header...

Maybe you should contact the developers of GPAC ( http://gpac.sf.net ).

in ISO specs do not mentioned positions of atoms, but some other additional specs say, that mdat should goes after it's header.

Which MP4Box version do you use? I created an short fragmented sample with MP4Box 0.4.1 DEV (CVS 2005.12.04). I wasn't able to play the file with Osmo4 or any other Player.

I was not able to play the file with Osmo4 too. The same result for other players.

Is any other tool to produce fragmented MP4? MP4Box does not write "sample duration" to file.

Sorry, I found "sample duration" information. When all samples are the same size, this information stores in default_sample_duration field in "trex" atom.

i have just realised that sony's "image converter 2 plus" includes a Mp4FragmentMuxer.ax filter which seems to support creating fragmented mp4 files!? this of course also poses the questions whether the sony psp or other sony mobile devices support fragmented mp4?

either way you might want to check it out:

i dont have "image converter 2 plus" and it is not possible to download it, only update, which doesnot installs without "image converter 2 plus" CD.
can you upload Mp4FragmentMuxer.ax filter here, please?
