ATI Avivo - H.264 hardware encoding

The cards have been selling for a while, any new info about the H.264 hardware encoding support in ATI Radeon X1300/1600/1800? Could x264 take advantage of it?

well.. ATI created a tool for it that appears really fast (http://www.chip.de/artikel/c1_artikel_17670022.html), but cannot be properly configured and there's no word yet on quality, so until such time as anybody who has an idea about video encoding and quality tests this thing, I wouldn't put too much money into it. Of course, if ATI decides to send me a card and the software we'll know better.

the article speaks about a preversion so i assume things will change, as no options defineable (bitrate or any codec settings) is pretty weak and makes speed comparisons pretty useless too

also the article talks about "ipod compatible h.264", i guess that means baseline profile at most, pretty useless (and fast)

And exactly that's what ATI wants to reach with releaseing this Software and Information to the Press now same for Nvidia, and that should allways make users skeptical about it we don't know anything really about that software yet and should wait, before stuiff like Price, Features and Speed Differences between the 3 GPUS r515 r520 and r530 are known, Taxidermista you should learn to be a bit more patient ;)

I'll try... I'll try hard not to send a X1300 to Doom9 for testing purposes :D
