I have recently purchased an external Liteon DVD/CD rewriteable drive. SOHW-1673SU. When I try to copy DVDs or files I get the message "invalid device number (internal error) [F]". I also had trouble with the regional setting, which I overcome by downloading a trial version of ANYDVD. This is a 21 day trial. Will my drive revert back to no selected region once the trial has expired.

Hi & welcome to the forum,
which software are you using for burning, and what gives you this error? The burning app or windows?
About the region setting: Anydvd does not modify your drive in any way. It essentially prevents the OS and appication programs from identifying and setting the region, similar to an additional driver layer. It also removes CSS protection so you can freely copy encrypted content from the DVD.
If you only need region-free, get http://www.remoteselector.com/ - it is freeware. You will then have to use a ripping tool such as dvddecrypter (no longer maintained), dvdfab decrypter or the built-in ripper of e.g. dvdshrink in order to make a copy of encrypted titles (>90% of recent dvd titles).

Steve

Greets Steve, Thanks for the advice The dialogue box comes up when I try to use the software that came with the DVD/CD, which is named EZ-DUB. It is an external drive with a USB1.0 connection. I'm beginning to think that the problem lies between me using the USB 1.0 connection instead of the internal IDE secondery on the motherboard. Do you have any thoughts on this. Thanks.
