There's a lot of forums I've gone to that I would like to save. Anyone know any methods to do so.. and if so is there anyway just to save the plain text or html?

You just set your site ripper to not download images and it won't. Not sure ripping entire forums would be appreacheated though.

And I hope your'e going to send each owner a check for the traffic... it's not exactly nice to leech that much bandwidth. If it was me and I'd notice that much traffic within a single day, I would seriously consider banning the IP address in question outright.

Yikes. I've done it once though and the forum was decent size. Took 50mb.. but that's including all the pics as well. Or maybe is there a way to save a thread? I'm not a cheep bastard leecher. Just look at my donation status at amv.org. I'm x_rex30 and a pillar and not exactly rich either. I've even contemplated donating here. Don't think wrong of me.

there is a way to save an entire thread, without any pictures. The archive contains all threads with all posts on a single page and no images: http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php It's meant for search engines. Considering the database size here is way over half a gig, the size of the entire forum would be considerable and there's really no point in saving an entire foru when you have the whole thing, including a search engine, online.

What would be a good way of attaining data from it. Maybe trying to contact the administrator or something.. sorry for these weird questions. I wont try taking the database here, I'm understandable. I like getting threads the way you show me. I wish other places like AMV.org had something like that so I can save the text in a thread.. or do they have that. I dunno. I may try asking about that there. Anyway thanks for the help. :thanks:

if a forum goes down and there isn't much plan of it going back up.Ask the admin.. you'd have to write your own code to do a halfway sensible import and it would never be the same as if you have the DB. You have no users, no usergroups, permissions, private messages, etc etc. There no sense in anybody but the admins taking care of backups.. any sensible admin would make sure the db is stored at multiple places to make sure that even if a building burns down, there's always a way to recover everything up until the latest backup.
