pgc.NET is a program chain ripper. Select the title set and pgc and it will be ripped to your hard drive. This method of ripping is needed for conversion purposes, like making AVI's e.t.c.

If after pressing 'Scan DVD', no DVD is found in the DVD-ROM unit (or mounted ISO) then pgc.NET will bring up a folder dialog allowing you to select a ripped folder on your hard drive. This allows you PGC processing even if another program has been used to rip the original DVD in file mode.

Hi,
Thanks for letting me know, don't know what happened there, I had an icon, hmmm, anyway, just for good measure I've recompiled the installer and re-uploaded to same URL. An icon should now be dropped onto the desktop.

Hi!

Since it sounds like you are the author, I hope you'll be good enough to respond to a couple of questions:

1) Does this new program's capabilities in anyway improve upon the similar capabilities of the quite old SmartRipper?

2) Is this new program capable of ripping "ARccOS"-protected DVDS?

Hi,

1) Haven't used smartripper for years, probably when it first came out, cant even remember it so can't really comment.

2) Sorry, No.

It was mainly written due to request.... I kept getting requests for a ripper that could deal with the source being a hard drive. For instance, people had already ripped with DVDFab Decrypter for example, had a nice clean rip on their hard drive but then wanted to PGC rip it for conversion to AVI or whatever.

It's mainly the PGC code from cladDVD.NET, but then re-written.

Doesn't "PGCDEMUX" (I think by JSOTO) give you the same, plus... ?

no offense of course, just trying to understand if there's a hidden added value I missed.

thanks,

Playing the pgc created by pgc.net on powerdvd gave no indication of exissting subs. and audio tracks didnt contain the language information.

playing the same pgc on media player classic only allowed me to select on audio track and no subs.

original dvd was: Stargate season3, 4 episodes each containing 3 audio languages and 5 sub tracks.

Yes.. That's correct, what was you expecting? That's how it should be..... it's a VOB file.

HI! thanks for the quick answer

lets say i have a episodic dvd(Red dwarf) i cant copy the episodes with dvdshrink one by one. i thought pgc.net would copy one episode with the sub and the 2 audio tracks.

then i would just "feed" that to AutoGk/avi.Net to convert to divx. but it seems pgc.net doesnt copy the sub track.

iNFO-DVD
3rd December 2005, 19:03
Yes it does.

The VOB file contains all audio tracks and subs, load it into DGIndex and you'll see the audio tracks.

Whats causing you a problem is you're 'playing' the VOB, VOB's are NOT for playing direct, irrelevant of what's been used to rip them.

Ripping a PGC is for converting.

My apolagies! i just tested it out with avi.Net and it recognized all the subs and audio!

newbie mistake,sorry.

guess i will be using this tool for a while.

PS: just by curiosity why dont you lput minimize buttons on your programs, just curious.

iNFO-DVD
3rd December 2005, 19:12
lol, good question.

No minimize as such, well no button, but as with avi.NET double clicking will minimize it. (pgc.NET - double click the graphic/picture at the top)

:D :D :D

about the guide: i thinks its pretty straightforward to use.

the only thing i "dont like" in it is the "find destination" window(same with avi.net and clad.net). i dont know how to explain it but its a different kind of windows window(doesnt allow go up or back in folders)

I'm very supportive of new software that can "make life better", so please don't misunderstand. However, these abilities are found in the quite old SmartRipper. Does your new program have any additional abilities that, perhaps, you've just not mentioned here?

pgc.NET was made by request. It uses 'vstrip' which in many peoples opinion is a more robust ripper than smartripper.

You have to remember sometimes people just want something that does the job in a simple way. Imagine a beginner using smartripper, they wouldn't have a clue...... pgc.NET has a very simple front end, load your DVD, choose a save folder and that's pretty much it. This *IS* what most people want and is what lots of people asked me for.

There is no dvd that smartripper can rip that vstrip/pgc.NET can not.

Would it be possible to get some kind of feedback upon completion?
The app doesn't report if the extraction succeeded or failed. You have to sit there and watch it get to 100% to know if it worked.

iNFO-DVD
9th December 2005, 00:08
uh? Of course you have to wait for it to get to 100% Well doesn't every other program?

You know when it's finished because the progress stops and it returns to the main screen....

I think I'm missing something here :(

UberDuper
9th December 2005, 00:15
If it fails, it also returns to the main screen without any notice.
And I didn't say, "wait" I said, "watch."

iNFO-DVD

OK I see what you mean.

I'll look into that when I do another update after this next one (after v1.2).

Just curious.... Did it fail and how so?

UberDuper
9th December 2005, 01:32
I made it fail a few times.
Once was when I tried to use pgc.net to rip straight from the disc using AnyDVD. This failed immediatly and was obvious.
Another was after using dvdfab to rip a new ARccOS protected disc. Failed at about 50%
Another was after using DVDD + PSL2 file without running the "Remove Crap" option from pgcedit plugin. Don't remember how far this got before it failed.

UD.

iNFO-DVD
9th December 2005, 01:56
Are you saying it wasn't just pgc.NET that failed on this disk? It was also DVDFab and DVD Decrypter?

iNFO-DVD
9th December 2005, 02:19
Just some quick information on the latest pgc.NET v1.2:

It now has the ability to have mapped network drives as either source, destination, or both.

So say you had computer A and computer B on a network, you could come along with a laptop for instance (computer C), connect to the network and run pgc.NET on computer C and rip from the DVD-ROM (or folder) in computer A to a folder on computer B.

UberDuper
9th December 2005, 02:36
No. I'm saying pgc.net failed in those scenarios. When using dvd content provided by those methods.

pgc.NET doesn't do ArCCos, nor can I test how they react with them as I don't have access to any.

i'm going to second the problem with pgc.net immediately stopping.
i tried it today for the first time, started ripping without a problem. then i installed dvd43, rebooted, let pgc.net rip the disc and on hitting 'start' it immediately switched back to the main screen as though it couldn't rip for some reason. now i know it's not dvd43 malfunctioning, because i used dvddecrypter (removing all the protection rip features because i let dvd43 do that) and dvddecrypter had no problem ripping!

the wierd thing is that pgc.net WOULD NOT rip the main pgc, but had no problem ripping any of the other pgcs. i dont know how this could be. so im using dvddecrypter until this is fixed. but overall it looks like a great tool!

also, for everyone else out there, have a look at avi.net from the same creator of pgc.net. looks promising, although a few crucial features are missing (why can't i set the final resolution!!!??? why can't I choose more than one audio stream???)

srotman
12th December 2005, 21:12
ok, its for sure pgc.net's incompatability with dvd43. after disabling dvd43, pgc.net was able to rip the main pgc again, however it stopped after 16.5MB, im assuming because of copy-protection it cannot handle.

i'm trying to rip 'lords of dogtown' which is a new release and is from sony pictures, which means it most likely has that new arccos protection on it.

to info-dvd:
is there any way of getting pgc.net to work WITH dvd43???

thanks ahead of time. keep up the AMAZING work

Hi, thanks for the feedback, I have no ArCCos DVD's which is a right pain as I can't test. But I'll have a look at the DVD43 issue and see if I can replicate and pinpoint why it might be just 'stopping'.

One last thing, avi.NET *DOES* allow you to choose the final size, you can cut from either edge and independently resize either of the vertical and horizontal planes.

srotman
13th December 2005, 01:23
and the multiple audio stream issue? :)

not to bust ur balls or anything, just want avi.NET to be the best damn encoder out there. has a lot of potential.

ill try the video resize like you said, let you know if anything comes up.

and to test the new arccos deal, if u want to, go out and rent madagascar or lord of dogtown. im sure there are many others, but i only know those two off the top of my head.

thnx for the quick reply

Yes I may have to rent one, that's if rentable copies contain the same arccos per film.....

Tried AnyDVD and DVD43 on a few DVD's this past hour and had no problems so it does seem to be just an Arccos issue, like I say, I'll have to get hold of one.

Thanks for trying the proggies out anyway.

I love this tool - itīs very nice :) But I would like to have stripping possibilities. I donīt want to have all languages and Subtitles. Would this be possible?

Why do you need stripping? Ripping a VOB using pgc.NET is for conversion purposes and most AVI conversion programs for example allow you to choose the audio stream etc so extra stripping isn't required, or am I missing something?

Glad you like it so far anyway :)

Iīm using my own commandline solution where DGIndex starts automatically after ripping, where BeSweet starts automatically after DGIndex and uses the first Audiostream for converting to AAC. When the first audiostream is not the right language I have a problem :)

I would need a Rippingtool that ends automatically after finishing and where I can select a language. Can you help me?

Hi iNFO-DVD,
Thanks for sharing your tools with us :).
But I think I'm missing something here.
You're in the UK, right?
Lightning UK is also from the UK.
He was forced by Macrovision to remove his DVDD tool from the net.
Aren't you affraid that Macrovision might come after you too?
Just asking because I hope they never will ;).
