My sony dvd player will not read burned dl discs; it keeps flashing a "disc is dirty" message. (of course the disc is clean)
I tried both ritek and mkm discs @ 2.4x - burned using a liteon SOHW 1693s.
It's a newer player and has read all other burned discs and of course commercial dual layer discs.
Am I simply hosed? :(

edit - reading through posts i guess it's DOUBLE layer discs, not dual layer -
(they are dvd+r dl)

You might try to get the bios upgrade for the Liteon burner. I have the same burner, and recieved the same error on my Sony DVDPlayer. After downloading the upgraded drivers, it worked fine, plus increased my burn speed.

1) Do the burned DVDs play on your PC?

2) You should also consider using Verbatim DL DVD+Rs. From both my own personal experience and myriad postings at these and other forums, presently, the Verbatim media appears to be the only consistently reliable DL DVD+R media...

the mkm discs ARE verbatim +r dl discs [i.e. dvd identifier lists them as mkm (mitsubishi discs)]
the firmware is KS0A (second newest firmware available)
i may have solved my problem: i used liteon's bit setting tool to change the discs to ROM and so far they will work in the player
(odd though since i've never had to do this for any single layer +r disc...)
Must be dl discs have to be set to ROM, eh?

Greentech - did you have to do any bit setting?

No, after the bios upgrade, mine ran fine. The Verbatrim discs worked fine with the upgade.
