Dumb question I know but how do I clear my computer's cache? I'm trying to fix a problem where some freaky company (not entirely sure what they are) keeps trying to connect or whatever to my computer. They seem particularly active when I click to open my Internet sign in screen (which takes aaages to come up despite having a new computer). I have an IP blocker and they always come up on that under PornDirect/Sightfinder/Verisign or just as sightfinder. Can anyone tell me how to stop them altogether because it's very annoying and I have absolutely no idea why it is happening.

Sounds more like a spyware/adware problem. You can get a free 30-day trial of SpySweeper from Webroot.com (http://www.webroot.com/consumer/?WRSID=0634a51e32e5e8131ac54c67f6e7519e)

I have tried running ad-aware but it makes absolutely zip difference and my computer is obviously much slower when I open my internet log in screen. I always see the message 'Not responding' at the top of the screen and have to wait for it to sort itself out (takes ages) before I can log in. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with this sightfinder thing as it always goes crazy whenever I try to log in. I really need help!

start > run > cmd > format C:\
??
that'll fix it
maybe getting a router to filter out some other stuff for you?

It may be a browser problem, but it could also be something hostile loaded on your system. I would suggest this:
Run msconfig (I'm taking a guess at your operating system here), and look through the tabs (beginning with Startup) and try to find the thing you need to disable. If you're not sure want something does, Google it before you decide to disable it, and err on the side of safety. I have disabled about 80% of the programs that load bits of themselves on startup, almost always without explicit user permission, and my system is a lot faster as a result. But be careful!
It's difficult to talk about clearing the cache without knowing what browser you are using...

yeah I do that every coupl of weeks also
but I also registry dive every few months to clear out stuff that shouldn't be there anymore
but checking the stuff in msconfig, specificly the startup tab regularly is a good thing

The "format" command is used to erase all of the information off of a computer diskette or fixed drive. I'd be *very* careful with this one.
Top 10 DOS Commands (http://www.computerhope.com/dostop10.htm)
You can also pull up your commandline utility and key in "help" at the flashing prompt, then hit the enter key. This'll return an alphabetized index of commands and a short explanation of what they'll accomplish for you.

yup, it's the ulitmate fix for all window based PCs
and most *nix based ones, but I assume the command is a bit differant for *nix

I'd recommend running a spyware remover and a antivirus program in safe mode - they might be able to detect / remove any malware which is causing your problem.
