Last night I let my wife use my PC to transfer some photo's stored on an MMC card in her cell phone....

Anyway, I've just noticed (this morning) that a folder, called "New Folder" is missing from my desktop... and it's not in the recycle bin!

Does anybody have any idea how I can find this folder again?

Many thanks guys.... hopefully

First depending on how many folders you have on your hard drive named
New Folder. Just do a search for a folder named New Folder.
Assuming you are using windows. Just open up MY COMPUTER,
Right click on your c drive and go to search. You should get a little
search on the left side.

If it does not find anything then the next step is to try other means.
This is some undelete software here.
http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/download.htm

Its free but works decent and its easy. They have a guide of how to use the app. There are others I will post those if this does not work.

Did you try a full HD search for the folder name? Perhaps it was just moved, somehow.

In case it was deleted, you can try a recovery tool like e.g. file inspector (http://www.pcinspector.de/). There are also others, I don't know them all ...
However the longer you wait, the poorer the chances for a successful recovery get ... and it's not so good the folder was on the desktop. Its location was in "\Documents and settings" on the system partition (unless you changed that somewhen), and the system partition is a place which is written to very frequently ...

Just a thought - did your wife log in under her own username on your computer?

Just a thought - did your wife log in under her own username on your computer?No.... As a rule, I don't let people use this particular PC because I use it for my work!

But last night the kids were using their PC's and the wife was desperate to clear the memory of her "enormous" 16MB MMC card, so I let her use my PC.

Note to self (and everybody else).....

I was just wondering if the folder might be in the desktop folder under her username instead of yours :).

"FreeUndelete" managed to find a whole load of deleted folders, most of them being "Temporary Internet" folders, plus a few others too..... But not the "New Folder" on my desktop :(

It sounds like Didée was right about storing folders on the desk top.... Anyway, I'm using "PC Inspector" at the moment.... We'll see how this fairs ;)

Not to be the party pooper here, but if you copied or extracted something from the HDD after deleting the stuff then you are screwed because the HDD structure has been altered. File recovery shold be done immediately after you notice something is missing.
In any case, if you have XP you might want to try its rollback feature.

I think you're right....

I think it's time to face the inevitable and admit defeat :(

Thanks for your help guys.... much appreciated ;)

Wait, did you try XP's rollback feature?Yep... I tried that :(

I also tried unchecking "hide protected operating system files" to gain access to the recycle bin.... but nothing was in there either!

Cheers

I don't know if this the same as a couple posts up or not
File Recovery Pro. I used an older version but have not
tried the updated one. This will do cluster scans.
If this does not work than it is most likely that the section
of the hard drive that this folder exsisted on has been long
written over as far as another file now resides in that space.

This will find the files that were inside of your folder and not the
folder itself. If they still exsist.

If you have a microsoft computer couldn't you set it to system restore to an earlier point when you had the folder? (also your wife's photos may be removed with this so back them up first)

Your Christmas shopping should be easy, a 1Gig MMC card.
