trouble with a downloaded movie

nothing like the direct approach, when asking for help

my problem is that when i switch to full screen, i get scanlines the size of my thumb on both sides of the screen (which makes it really hard to enjoy the movie), my neighbor (xp) has no problem viewing it, said my problem might be due to too many codecs installed (doubt it, since this is a one time encounter)

i tried powerdvd 4, wmc, vlc, and wmp7, and the all produce the same flaw; the only thing i could think of, that's causing this is: winme, an 8mb video card, or the fact that the video's resolution is 856x480 (which would prevent me from ever watching this)

Which part of "illegally obtained copyrighted content" doesn't apply for *ANY* downloaded anime fansub?

Everything is copyrighted as soon as it is released, and downloading it without permission from the copyright holder (like, for instance, buying or licensing it) is *ALWAYS* illegal. Yeah, you're probably not going to be legally prosecuted for it, but doom9 might be if there's much talk about such content on this board.

The rules are there for a reason, after all. (Of course, he could have worded it differently without mentioning downloading and such...)

i'd took the chance, i knew it would swing either way

sure, with my title, it could have been a little more blunt, but i'd been here for awhile, so to know how things work

i'd got this movie(*.avi) and...
this would indicate it's probably a downloaded movie (but wouldn't determine whether or not it's been obtain illegally), but would give me chance at some help

i'm having trouble viewing this movie
this would imply i'd encoded it wrong, and would require me to give out my encoding configuration (since i'm only doing s/vcd, it will be impossible to lie my way through)

no matter how i'd word it, it would be hard to explain the scanlines (without going to great details)

besides, there was a thread a while back that was closed, then re-open when the user explained that it was no longer licensed, or ever lincensed (unfortunaly i can seem to find that thread)
