I am trying to convert a 16:9 PAL AVI to Mpeg-2. I am using CinemaCraft Encoder (CCE) and was wondering what bitrate i should use if I do a conversion in the CBR Multipass mode. Sorry about the dumb question... i have never converted anything to Mpeg-2 and i dont know what bitrate to use for a DVD. I know in the AVI to DVD guide it says to do a multipass in VBR - multipass mode, but i donnot like VBR, so please dont tell me to use that, i am just interested in knowing wat Bitrate to use for the best quality. I tried to put it at 9000 kbps (Which is the highest kpbs in the AVI to DVD guide with VBR mode.), but the output file was to big for a DVD5 and the movie is only 1 hour and 15 minutes, which DVD5 should be able to hold 2 hour. I also used VirtualDubMob on a couple of DVD's i ripped myself, and checked out the file info, but none of the bitrates were the same... i am very confused.

hi Willows_Thoughts,

this thread should give you a few different options to calculate bitrate, inlcuding downloading bearson's bitrate calculator from doom9 or a manual method.
