conversion of 3ivx /AAC to DivX/XviD w MP3??

hi my friendz,

i did a search and could not find any hint so i hope this is not a dupe!
i have an interesting vhs rip somebody encoded in 3ivx and AAC sound. I would like to watch it on my standalone. Is there an easy way to convert this flick???

As a matter of fact I own the VHS but wanted to have a security copy. As I do not have a capturing device a friend did this for me and chose this strange codec and audio compression. can ab help me now???

Somehow I doubt that they captured direct to 3ivX/aac. Get them to recompress the raw capture files to an XviD/mp3 avi or whatever you want.

thanx for the reply and the healthy distrust. the rip was first in raw uncompressed format but this biggy was deleted to save hd space so now all i have is the 3ivx/AAC file...

I would recommend you search the forum for a tools called YAMB and AVI-Mux GUI.

Fire up YAMB and click on the "Extract" tab. Input your .MP4 (or .AVI) file and de-mux the video and audio streams!

Re-encode your AAC audio stream to MP3 (there are tools for this).

Fire up AVI-Mux GUI and input your original video stream along with your new MP3 audio stream....

When AVI-Mux GUI has finished doing its thing, you should have a working .AVI file you can burn to CD~R and spin in your stand-alone!

but nothing happened although the log showed:
[11:00:21] : Extracting started... [11:00:21] : Exporting finished completely.

I then changed the file extension to MP4 and tried again and could extract stream 1 as a AAC file and stream 2 as a cmp file. I then tried several tools to convert the AAC file to MP3 and always received:

FAAD error: Gain Control not yet implemented...

Any final suggestions - or should I just dump the file which actually also does not play very well on my PC - crashes all players and does not play the audio if the player does not crash???

That sounds like you did not write the "Track ID" number in the relevent box provided: -

Here's an typical example of what to look out for when de-muxing video streams from the .MP4 container to the .AVI container: -

You will have to perform a similar proceedure when de-muxing your AAC audio stream ;)

thanx for your patience and fast reply!!!
i tried again but i actually used the right ids - the video exported as avi plays fine in mpc but the aac stream does not play using any tool - mpc reported:

I noticed from your previous post that the AAC stream appears to only have "one" channel..... This is a little unusual.... It could indicate that the stream is borked

That said, it might be possible for you to import the complete (audio+video) MP4 source into iTunes and re-encode the AAC audio element to MP3.

Make a copy of your source first.... just in-case things go wrong!

iTunes does not open the avi/mp4 file at all nor include it into the library. I could get the file and the extracted aac played by nero showtime 2 but unfortunately, the nero wave editor refuses to open it????

Just for interests sake.... Can you tell me what container your 3ivx/AAC source file is in.... Is it .AVI or .MP4?

EDIT: Well you can "sort of" de-mux AAC from AVI with YAMB.... but the AAC stream is extracted with a RAW header :(

the original file had an avi extension but I cound not process it using mp4box so i re-named it with an mp4 extension - now i could demux the file. As i could extract a working avi from mp4box / YAMB and a non-working aac which i can only play in nero showtime 2 but it plays???

In that case you could have just used AVI-Mux GUI to demux the AAC stream from the .AVI container, prior to re-encoding it to MP3.

You could also have used AVI-Mux GUI to save the "just" the video stream to .AVI.....

thanx again. as i thought, the original "AVI" file did not import into AVI-Mux GUI - so it must have been a previously re-named MP4 file. I could get Quicktime to save the aac as a MOV file - is this a way to continue?

To extract the 3ivx video stream from out the .AVI container you need to fire-up AVI-Mux GUI and drop your 3ivx with AAC audio in .AVI file into it: -

Click on "Start" and AVI-Mux GUI will save the 3ivx "video stream only" file complete with the .AVI file extension.

AVI-Mux GUI will save the AAC file complete with an .AAC file extension. Which you can load into YAMB and mux/save into .MP4. Which in-turn can be loaded into iTunes and saved as an MP3 stream.

When AVI-Mux GUI has finished doing its thing (again), you should have a working .AVI file you can burn to CD~R and spin in your stand-alone!

That said, you might have to change the 4CC of your encode. And even delve into some of AVI-Mux's deeper settings!

I finally got it done. Demuxing of the falsely re-named avi to a video only avi using YAMB and recoding of the YAMB demuxed AAC to wav using QuickTime Pro (which could have also demuxed and re-encoded also the original file) did the trick. I encoded the wave to mp3 using dBPower Music Converter and the LAME codec and muxed both together using VirtualDub...
