Just wondering, how many people here at doom9 use firefox 1.5 and do you see a marked improvement over 1.0.7?
I am still using firefox 1.0.7.

Well, the fixed the memory leaks and it's a little faster (with one niggling 100% cpu bug), I assume those are going to be the main draws for most people.

I've switched so long ago I barely recall how the old one was..
It's still a memory hog though and the "release memory" function is the most stupid function ever deviced, and the tricks to turn it off just never really work. Just the other day I came across this news bit that mentioned memory being the number one reason not to use Firefox (just as the lack of a proper Outbox is probably the single most important reason for anybody using any of the major mail clients on Windows not to move to Thunderbird.. when dealing with flaky mailservers or working offline, there's just no substitute for the good old outbox and no plugin ever comes close to really delivering).

I have been using 1.5 myself for some time now quite happily. All my favorite extensions are compatable. There has been a decent speed up and I have never had any sort of memory hog issues with any version. And probably will never. Just doubled my RAM. The only thing that bugs me every once in a while Is when closing tabs with mouse guestures or switching tabs the program seems to lock up. But within a second or so all is right again. Functioning normally.
With the addition of SVG there is no going back. Just wish Opera would implement something more than SVG Tiny on the desktop version of their browser. Frustrating to try to get things to look like I want in both browsers. SVG Tiny is just so basic and "tiny". And with the aging adobe SVG plugin IE can hobble along in an almost functional manner. :)

I switched over when it was still RC2
so much better imo, fast more stable, more options, like forcing new windows to open in tabs, very much worth it

+1
Wanted to use the the "Extended status bar" available only for 1.5 rev here https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1433&application=firefox
Had a bunch of older extensions not working , had to find workarounds, now all are working (15 or so) either by tweaking either after auto-updating.
Beside a better stability I think the auto-updating (completely functional) is one of the big improvement :)

I think they fixed that a couple days ago, I saw something about it in the news the other day

You heard right battscrew. Unfortunatly what you heard was false. Cnet jumped the gun a bit and published a story about a confirmed buffer overflow vulnerability with exploit. When in fact there is neither a buffer overflow or any exploit. What I took away from it is that sites using malicious javascript code can alter the page title to something rediculously long after the page has loaded. That rediculously long title gets stored in the history.dat file and at the next startup due to a non exploitable flaw firefox sits there for quite a bit chugging through the file. But leave it to do it's thing and it will fix itself and start behaving normally again. If the behavior persists purging your browser history or deleting the history.dat file will solve the problem. And this is a problem you will likely never suffer from if you stick mostly to your trusted sites.
http://www.mozilla.org/security/history-title.html -> 2.5 million character title.

Then again, you probably need to try very hard to parse a string in N^2 time...
Let's hope Mozstorage (a new database for mozilla products based on SQL lite) will do such operations much faster.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and haven't noticed any problems (thats a good thing). The other version suffered a few crashes and I had to reload it. I noticed one difference in the Google toolbar (on the Firefox Start Page); the search box is blank after each search is initiated wheras in the old version it would hang around like an old stain until a new search word or phrase was entered (or did I dream it?).
