View Full Version : When reauthoring, how to get chapters out of titles?

I'm a newbie and I asked this question in that forum but no answers. I have visited the help guides and don't find any information there to address this problem either.

I recently purchased Live 8 and find that there are only about one disc's worth of songs that I really like. So, I set about the task of reauthoring the 4 discs to come up with one disc of the material I want. However, each time I try to take out a song by using the "set start/end frames" function, it puts the selection in the left pane as "Title 1, Title 1 (2), etc. etc. Then, after completing the compilation and saving it to hard drive, I try to open it in PowerDVD or WMP and the forward and backward buttons don't work because I think it is recognizing it as only one title, rather than a collection of chapters. How does one break the Title down into chapters so that this function will work? Otherwise, one must watch the whole thing rather than being able to skip forward or back to the songs one wishes to hear. Is there a method other than the "set start/end frames" that will achieve the desired outcome?

I dunno for sure, but you might have better luck ripping w/DVD Decrypter "By Chapter" and then... reauthoring perhaps w/IfoEdit or some such.

Use ChapterXtractor.

Thanks to you both. I have gone to the DVDShrink guides quite exhaustively but not to DVDdecrytor guides, in fact, don't know if there are any, hence my knowledge is limited there. Is there a "By Chapter" selection when decrypting? Is ChapterXtractor a part of Decryptor, or another program and if so how does one get it? Thanks again. Can't imagine no one else has run into this issue when reauthoring dvd's and compiling them. I'd like to do the same to my Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" and "Farewell Tour 1" when I figure this out because that would be an awesome compilation, if, that is, you like the Eagles as I do.

If you use Rebuilder, then in the segment viewer, remove the bits you don't want (this assumes that the bits you want are complete cells)

ChapterXtractor is a separate programm. Look for it in the download section.
But I see your task is complex one and this proggy can only extract the times or frame numbers of the chapters entry. So probably it is not suitable for the task as whole, but can be useful to get information about the chapters.

You can extract chapters with VobBlanker.

Answered my own question. For those who are interested, the chapters need not be extracted! When playing back on your standalone dvd player, just use the "Title Search" instead of the "Chapter Search" function and it skips forward and backward without problem. Thank you all for your considerate input.
