I have a problem where colors are all distorted to dark red and black when playing video files with a directshow player eg. Media Player Classic, Zoom Player, etc. If I use Nero Media Player the colors are fine.

PC Specs: 1.7GHz P4, 256MB RAM, XP Pro Servicepack 2, ffdshow-20051013, XviD-1.0.2

I have tried the following using GraphEdit to render the video file:
1) Un-installed ffdshow ( XviD is then used as video decoder ) - problem persists.
2) Un-installed XviD - problem persists.
3) Re-installed XviD & ffdshow - problem persists.

Any ideas?

Is this with all videos? Have you tried more than one type, including both XviD and DivX encoded, as well as MPEG (1 or 2)?

Do you have an nVidia card? If so, start by updating to the latest drivers available on their site, then after rebooting enter the Color Correction menu (Right-click the tray icon), select Overlay under Apply color changes to: on the top left, select Advanced under Color profile on the bottom left and Apply, then try it.

This is with all my mpeg4 videos. Not sure about mpeg2 - will check that tonight.
Video chipset is SIS650. I would'nt suspect hardware or driver level problem since Nero Media Player works OK.

The problem is fixed. I installed the latest SIS650 drivers and applied default color settings.

I had that suspicion - what you described was nearly identical to problems with nVidia drivers (except the color is washed out, not red-shifted). I'm glad you decided to suspect drivers after all. :)
