Hi,

I wonder if the DVD Video format can be used for electronic books. In other words, is it possible to convert say a Word document to DVD Video, so that this document can be viewed on a DVD player?

I understand this has more to do with DVD authoring, not DVD players, that's why I'm posting here.

It is possible but due to limitations (most notably screen resolution) you will find not a single person who would read even a short novel on dvd. Not to mention the sh*tloads of work involved in doing the actual stills for the tex, tough the authoring part is pretty simple if the software accepts scripts.

The making of the stills could be very simply automated with photoshopCS2 dataset variables. You could essentially import the text as ascii, and get photoshop to output it all as a sequence of jpgs.

I agree though, I wouldn't relish the idea of reading anything too long from dvd

Every day I travel to and from work by train, an hour one way. I would love to read books from a laptop in the train, but it’s too expensive (and heavy too). But a portable DVD player would be much cheaper and lighter, and 7-inch screen would be acceptable for me both in quality and size.
Suppose I’ve converted a book into a series of jpegs – what’s next? Sorry, I’m not much familiar with the capabilities of DVD-ideo format. Do I make a huge menu of these stills, or I actually produce a video stream? Could anybody point me in the right direction, perhaps some link(s).
Thanks
