Auto Shut Down

Hello,

I've been backing up disc for about a year now and every problem I have come across I have been able to find an answer here. This time though I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue.

I'm trying to rip Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers and when I bring up DVD Decrypter it gets as far as

Parsing IFO File...VTS_01_0.IFO

Then the whole thing shuts down. Recommendations? Thanks in advance. JV

Your computer shuts down? If so, when you reboot you should get a "Your computer has just recovered from a serious error" screen, which you will click "Send error report" to get an explanation which you'll need to post here if you don't understand it.

No, just DVD Decrypter shuts down.

Uninstall/reinstall DVD Decrypter, making sure you have the latest version.

Well I Uninstalled, updated and reinstalled and the ripping seemed to work, but then DVD Shrink gave me this error:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Invalid data in file "C:\RESCUE_RANGERS_VOLUME_1\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB"

The last time I saw this type of error was whenever DVD Decrypter had to skip sectors. In the log it did say it had to add 2 dummy sectors at the beginning. Your help is greatly appreciated, I'm starting to think this disk is cursed or something. ;)

It's entirely possible that before it was crashing when it was trying to give an error message regarding bad sectors, whereas now it's substituting dummy sectors. Try cleaning the disk and examine it for scratches, then re-rip it making sure you save the log file. (Click View > Log, then within the log window click File > Save As...) If it fails again, post the Decrypter log file here.

Ok, I tried cleaning it. There are no major scratches that I can see, I've definately see worse. Tried re-ripping and Shrink encounters the same error. Here's the log:

And here's 'nother question. Ever since I got Decrypter 3.5.4.0, ImgTool has been saying, "Can't receive file information for file C:\Program Files\DVD Decrypter\SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe"

"For recording support at least DVDDecrypter Ver. 3.1.7.0 is needed!"

What's that about? JV

Sounds like you've encountered a disk that's either protected by ARccoS, or a method similiar to it. These projects will sometimes make DVD Shrink do some strange things. To get around it, you've got choices. For the first choice (still using DVD Decrypter), check out the link below.

For the second choice, you could try giving DVDFab Decrypter a chance. The program's free and fairly self-contained, as well as updated regularly. Link's below.

Many thanks. I'm trying the first option now. Quick question about the download, though.

My Virus Scan said I may not want these files,
C:\Program Files\PgcEdit\bin\pskill.exe
C:\Program Files\PgcEdit\pgcedit.exe

I do want to keep those files right? Just making sure. JV

You should be fine. I don't know which antivirus software you're using, but in all likelyhood it's giving you warnings because downloading is pretty risky stuff these days! Just its way of making sure that you know what you're doing. Back when I used Norton, I'd sometimes have it complain anytime a file had an installer packaged with it. There's nothing in those files, though, that's going to give you headaches.
