Hi everyone,
half a year ago, i bought this player and i like it alot. It plays almost everything you throw at it. After a Firmwareupdate from Pioneer it supports subtitles too. Only sad thing is, that these subtitles are very very small and not colored like at PC-Players. Is there anything you can do to increase readability ?
Thanks in advance,
Ellysia

I'm not that knowledgable about generating subtitles but I presume you are talking about subtitles suitable for use with MPEG-4 video in AVI.
If so, what tools did you use to generate your files?

I primary watch avi (divx) DVDs on this player. Video files with Soft-Subtitle like video.avi + video.srt or video.ass , etc. With the new firmwareupdate this player is able to show subtitle but the font is very small and sometimes it does not fit onto the screen (resoltuion problem, not that bad). Compared to PC the subtitle is alot worse, since software-players on the PC have a much better font and use different colors for different actors. My question was, is there a way to increase the font size or to influence the way this player shows the subtitles.
PS: Tools used are VirtualDubMod. I dont think the tool is the problem since subtitles are standard-norm. Every player just show them different, some show them better, some worse.

I have this player too.... which firmware upgrade are you using?
EDIT: I've just checked my player and it's using firmware version 2.09, which according to Pioneers web site is dated 02 November 2004

Hmmm!
I don't know what to suggest..... Maybe the developer who created the firmware you are using over on the DivXpert site can help you further?
Can you e-mail a short sample to me (max 10MB) and I'll see what the subs look like with the stock Pioneer firmware?

Hi,
thanks for the link from DivXpert. I will test this firmware tonight. I do not know yet, which firmware my player actually is running on, but i got it direct from Pioneer 3 month ago. Without this update, the player was not able to play subtitles at all. Hopefully, the firmware from DivXper can play .ass subtitles as well, since many alot of my subtitles are in .ass format.
PS: Thanks for you offer SeeMoreDigital. I will come back to you, if i cannot find any solution :)

Hang on Ellysia,
Can you confirm which firmware you are running right now.... before installing any third-party firmware?
Here's how to find firmware version: -
* HOME MENU
* INITIAL SETTINGS
* Go down to OPTIONS (Do not enter/open a sub menu)
* Press the "DISPLAY" button on the remote
* Make a note of what is displayed
Cheers
