Nero Recode 2 default video bitrate values

Hi everybody,

I have several video clips (MPEG-1, MPEG-2 & MPEG-4 Part 4) that I want to reencode to AVC, using Nero Recode CE 2.2.6.17. Some of them have bad video and audio quality and some of them have DVD quality.

The settings for the files are Nero Digital Profile - "Standart - AVC", "Fit to target:" is disabled, and after adding a file, I remove Crop & Resize. The files have resolution up to 480x576.

My question is: Does the program have a way to calculate "default" video bitrates? After adding a file, it returns different bitrate values for the different files and even sometimes it returns different bitrates for the same file!!! It happened to me also that when I tried "Cinema - AVC" profile for several videos it returned smaller output (in MB) than the "Standart - AVC". The main reason why I ask is that the quality of the output files with default bitrates isn't the same as the original (there are many visible differences). If there's such algorythm, I'll trust it, otherwise I'll set the video bitrate by hand.

it should give you the same bitrate for the same combination of targetsize and movielength (and the same audiobitrate)

Yes, I suppose it works this way.
But what I mostly wanted to know is if the video bitrate values are calculated in some way (for example after analyzing the video quality) or they are default values for the selected profile?

Have you tried moving the 'Video Quality' slider? That sets the bitrate. There's no default bitrate at all unless you check 'Fit to target', in which case the bitrate is locked, obviously. The maximum is 2Mbps for Standard-AVC and 8Mbps for Cinmea-AVC.

Yes, I move the slider and it changes the bitrate.
I just want to know the way the program calculates the video bitrate after adding a file when the option 'Fit to target' is disabled. It differs from 200 - 600 kbps for 'Standart AVC'.

It doesn't, it just uses the last value you had.

[edit]Oh wait, I see what you mean. The inital value is fairly random. I wouldn't pay any attention to it.
