View Full Version : To use NuMenu4u or not?

I have never used Numenu4u but I have always wondered about it. I know what it does and why it does it (re-encodes main movie menu down to a smaller size in order to get more bitrate for main movie). My question is this: do all of you always use numenu4u all the time no matter what size the main movie menu is? Or does it depend on the size of the main movie menu? If so, what size is big enough to use numenu4u on?

I personally set numenu to have a threshold of ~200MB, and always set it to be active in DIF4U. If the menu size is below this then all that happens is that the menus are copied over, which DIF would do anyway. I find it very useful for removing buttons that i no longer need (eg for playing an extra that is preview of other discs. I HATE those). Also automatic stripping of multiple language streams, and removal of unreferrenced material is useful.

Zeul: As far as the settings go in Numenu4u, do you recommend the settings that are shown in Doom9's guide (the Big 3)? Also do you have a guide on how to do the things you mentioned in the above post (the removing of things part)?

hoops10,
iirc stripping of multiple language streams can be enabled in settings>settings>show general settings screen.
the majority of the removal functions and button editing is only avaliable in the VIP settings.
you can read all about them in the guide :http://www.doom9.org/mpg/big3-Numenu4u.htm or in the help file that accompanies numenu.
personally i usually launch numenu first ... with a threshold of around 100 - 200 MB, but with the VMG always selected for processing, then i preview the menus for stripping/adjusting, re-encode if necessary, then numenu launches dif4u for me ...
works for me :D

jel, what do you mean when you say "with a threshold of around 100 - 200 MB"? Do you mean that the minimum size of a menu is around 100 to 200 megs? Also when you say "with the VMG always selected for processing", what do you mean by that?

threshold = minimum menu threshold to process (therefore menu items below this threshold will not be selected automatically)
most (generally speaking, of course) warnings/nags etc will reside in the VMG menu (VIDEO_TS.vob), therefore i have numenu set to always select this menu and strip all warnings/un-referenced material for me.
