After installing the new version of VLC player, does anybody know why, when you right click on your "Recycle Bin" you see the VLC following options: -

What's the point of adding your recycle bin to VLC players playlist or even playing your recycle bin????!!!!

Or have I missed something?

For playing deleted media files?? :)

That menu is shown (blindly) for every folder (including empty ones, the root of removable drives without media, etc..).

You can remove that shell extension killing the keys (standard registry editing warning, blah, blah, blah):

HKLM\HKEY_CLASSES\Root\Folder\Shell\AddToPlaylistVLC
HKLM\HKEY_CLASSES\Root\Folder\Shell\PlayWithVLC

Of course, this way you will also lose that option even for folders that do have some media files you could want to play.

I hope they fixed the audio in this release. Really like VLC but had audio problems. Also don't like not being able to have it Open Source drives without manually setting the drive in Preferences.

IN "Changes between 0.8.2 and 0.8.4" autors wroted - Musepack decoder using libmpdec.

But I don't play MPC files in this version of player.

Where I can find binary libmpdec?

i have problems playing back AVC+HE-AAC in MP4 (muxed with mp4box).

Does VLC finally support adding black borders to extend movie in 4:3 or 16:9 AR? I think not. This is the main reason why I use MPC instead of VLC. Also HTTP MP4 or MKV streaming would be a nice feature.

ok, i found the problem was a b0rked version of mp4box. i may have caused some problems even with .mp4 files produced by x264 (!!!) since it uses the GPAC libs...

If I play a movie with subtitles and the movie is 16:9 or 2.35:1, I want to have subtitles below the active picture, it means in the black stripe which is at bottom (if I have a 4:3 TV). Most players and subtltle filters have an option to extend the picture to 16:9 or 4:3 by black stripes. Something like AddBorders in AviSynth, a very simple thing IMHO. But unfortunately it is missing in VLC, although a lot of people are requesting it.

The VLC nightlies fixed the audio issues even with the b0rked MP4.

edit: if its the same as reported here (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1369761&group_id=84101&atid=571738), it has been a bug in vlc

I've still got the self-installing executable for 0.8.1, which is the version I use, btw, and it doesn't resemble the screenshots of 0.8.4. I'm pretty sure that older versions are available at their website as well.

VLC is the only player which can smoothly play 1080i Mpeg2 on my POS 2.4 P4. The trick is to choose Deinterlace-->Discard. Try it out if you have a slow CPU.
